Job Summary

The Program Culture Manager provides a comprehensive support system for all site and student related issues in our afterschool and summer programs. They oversee program culture and behavior intervention and support utilizing a DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) lens, the “EDMO Method” - EDMO's SEL (social emotional learning) framework of “SPACE” (self-awareness, problem solving, advocacy, collaboration and empathy), and a healing-centered engagement approach. They are a resource for field staff, creating a supportive environment for everyone at site and implementing initiatives addressing the impact of trauma while creating healing spaces for diverse communities. This role sits within the Programs Department and collaborates with the Northern California Area Manager and Curriculum Department. The Program Culture Manager will work to enhance program culture, community week and community events, and behavioral interventions and support while offering training in de-escalation, restorative circles, and healing-centered engagement strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives for behavioral intervention resources and support for sites including review of current behavioral intervention and action plans.
  • Work to build more inclusive and equitable behavioral interventions, supports and resources for our site staff.
  • Advocate for individual students and site needs both at a company level to help adjust our EDMO practices to provide adequate support and at the district level to assist with events like action plans, suspensions, etc.
  • Create all resources and training materials for staff around program support topics including PBIS and other behavioral interventions used by partners, action plans, de-escalation techniques, restorative circles and healing centered engagement strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with culture, goals and values of the organization and the respective partnership.
  • Facilitate restorative circles and implement healing centered engagement strategies within our programs.
  • Visit sites periodically to provide additional training and consistent follow-up and support.
  • Ensure a DEIB lens is considered as part of the fabric of our EDMO programs and Behavior Intervention and Support System.
  • Be the expert on the “EDMO Method” (our SEL tool), own any future updates and assist sites in training and implementation.
  • Assist sites in creating valuable content for their community week curriculum and collaborate with the Curriculum team to approve and support these site activities.
  • Compile content for our monthly holiday and activities newsletter for staff and help to pull staff focus from the main holiday to create a more inclusive and aware holiday practice.
  • Assist Site Directors and Site Assistants in creating unique and inclusive program culture for their site using all supports listed above.
  • Consult with and support other departments on a case by case basis based on capacity, which may include the following:
    • Curriculum Partnership: Act as a thought partner for the Curriculum team, providing insights into topics like inclusivity and the EDMO Method.
    • DEIB Partnership: Partner with the Human Resources team as needed on Policy and Procedure Review through a DEIB lens to ensure alignment with our values.
    • Communication Support: Collaborate with the Customer Relations and Communications teams to provide supportive language and a DEIB lens on internal or external EDMO materials as needed for sensitive conversations or the overall communication strategy.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field or 5+ years experience in a relevant position.
  • Substantial experience in educational program development and support, including curriculum design, behavior intervention and support, and integration of DEIB principles.
  • In depth knowledge of SEL practices and supports.
  • Awareness of cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.
  • Familiarity with program management and coordination within an educational setting.
  • Problem solving abilities to address complex issues related to program culture and behavior intervention.
  • Conflict resolution skills to handle challenging situations and foster positive relationships.
  • Leadership skills to oversee program culture initiatives and provide guidance to field staff.
  • Awareness of industry trends in education.
  • Proficient in creating and updating resources, training materials, and tools to support program and framework implementation.
  • Ability to track, analyze, and interpret metrics related to initiatives and program success.
  • Strong advocacy skills to drive changes and improvements.
  • Competence in developing and conducting training sessions on various topics and educational strategies.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and strong leadership abilities to guide and support staff.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving educational needs and trends.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift 25 pounds to a height of 3-4 feet

Compensation

This is a Full time, regular exempt position. The salary range is $70k - $75k and will be commensurate with experience and location.

JOB LOCATION: This is a remote position based in Northern California (Bay Area). While the role primarily allows for remote work, occasional onsite presence at designated locations within the Bay Area may be required. Candidates must be located in the Bay Area. The ability to commute to onsite locations as needed is an essential aspect of this role.
