We work together on numerous projects, programs, and events to enhance the support we give to faculty. We keep meetings casual but efficient. Respect, reliability and strong communication are keys to our success.The Institute is always looking for ways to improve upon and support our mission, and the brand-new Programmatic Communicator position will help to advance, advocate, and amplify the work of our world-class faculty. This role will serve as an internal communicator for our primary faculty audience and coordinate internal communications and project management efficiency for our dispersed team. This is a hybrid position. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities ( IAH ) is to empower faculty to achieve their full potential by creating community and cultivating leadership. The IAH advances, advocates, and amplifies the arts and humanities through its Faculty Fellows Program; and by sponsoring conferences, lectures, and public conversations. It trains and supports current and emerging university leaders through the Academic Leadership Program. The Institute promotes community through its Faculty Programs, which build mentoring networks for faculty at all stages of their academic careers.

Position Summary

The Institute for the Arts and Humanities Programmatic Communicator manages and coordinates internal communication efforts. This position primarily focuses on the Institute’s primary audience: faculty. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, amplifying internal and external opportunities; tracking faculty research, creativity and leadership work; collaborating on and communicating with events and programs; and crafting stories about faculty and the Institute through several communication outlets (website, newsletter, email, listservs, social media, podcast).This role serves as the manager of internal staff communication channels processes and workflow related to project management. In addition, the position coordinates retention and archival of key records.

This role reports to the Director of Communications.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic design skills
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit communications
  • Experience working on a small, collaborative team
  • Experience or willing to learn videography and photography
  • Experience or willing to learn managing social media accounts
  • Experience or willing to learn podcast production
  • Experience or willing to learn newsletter design, writing and distribution
