This position reports to the Director of the Multicultural Student Services Center ( MSSC ). The MSSC reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost, ODECE . Duties

  • This position performs all major office administrative functions in the Multicultural Student Services Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, budget, payroll, internal and external payment, Banner assistance/office supervisory, and to a lesser extent, related clerical or technical duties for the director.
  • Assigns, supervises and reviews the work of student staff in daily operations, manages the processing of correspondence, reports, course materials, publications, payroll-personnel forms and academic and administrative records for senior staff.
  • Plans work distribution for peak periods and arranges for, selects, and trains temporary employees as needed.
  • Assists supervisor in planning and preparation of grant or budget proposals and subsequent changes. Monitors and reconciles office expense budgets.
  • Manages student staff and guides the process and content when students answer inquiries from customers including students, university staff, sponsors or general public; this position normally handles more complex inquiries personally.
  • Complies workload statistics and composes or assists in developing operational reports.
  • Contacts other university departments to request housekeeping and maintenance services; submit payroll for staff, reviews and reconciles expense or payroll discrepancies; gives or solicits operational information; expedites procurement and schedules and arranges for meetings, conferences and social events.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and manages student staff in conjunction with senior staff (Multi Cultural Counselor/Sr. Program Coordinator) including reception staff, media team staff, volunteers, etc.
  • Manages reception area and all associated cultural imagery and staff motivational assignments, including lobby and hallway images on the first floor, communication, bulletin boards, and lobby-based communication media, including slideshows.
  • Supports external marketing programs, scheduling of student staff, student organizations, and other users. Updates weekly bulletin as it relates to the university and MSSC calendar, updates newsletter and other communications.
  • Manages center use, schedules and leads student staff to ensure that meeting spaces are utilized consistently, fairly, and appropriately. Ensures that rooms are clean, audio visual technology is in place and operational.
  • Manages student staff to be sure that space turnover is completed and ready for next group, oversees facility RSVP process, communications, feedback, and trouble shooting.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/ GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of responsible business, or higher education administrative experience, including six to twelve months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Functional and operational knowledge of Google products, and Microsoft Office products to include word processing skills desired.
