Job Description

As a Communications and PR co-op joining the Global Communications & Patient Advocacy team at Takeda Oncology, you will have an opportunity to experience in-house/client-side corporate communications and public relations within the Oncology Business Unit at a global, bio-pharmaceutical company.

The co-op will be a fully integrated member of the communications team, attending virtual and in-person meetings and events. The team will also arrange opportunities for you to hear from leaders in other parts of the company to ensure you get a comprehensive picture of working at Takeda. Primary responsibilities will focus on writing and project management.

Position Accountabilities

  • Support internal communications campaigns, including brainstorming executing employee engagement activities and owning the communications plan from concept to execution for Blood Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) and Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM).
  • Contribute to global external news announcements and development of a corresponding public relations and media strategy, including copywriting long- and short-form content.
  • Own monthly internal newsletter process, including topic decisions; layout development; long and short-form article brainstorming and writing; article and blurb editing, both manually and via AI support; intranet article design process; and final product creation.
  • Work with the visual communications team on content creation including video content filmed in our onsite studio, podcast recordings, social media graphics and presentation design (potential for up to 10% digital/graphic design support).
  • Develop social media post copy to reach doctors, nurses, patients, as well as media, investors, partners and prospective employees.
  • Partner on events, managing the annual Fall Fest event held for Oncology Business Unit employees to boost employee engagement.
  • Coordinate educational campaigns, including potential to work with patient/caregiver social media influencers to raise awareness of needs in cancer.
  • Conduct research surrounding competitive landscape, corporate reputation and industry trends.
  • Integrate patient advocacy collaborations and engagements into campaigns and communication strategies.
  • Maintain and improve newly developed internal communications metrics tracking by analyzing key metrics, updating report, and presenting findings quarterly to the internal team.

EXAMPLES OF PAST STUDENT PROJECTS

  • Awareness Months - owned awareness month campaigns. Responsibilities included development of editorial calendar, gathering of patient videos, interviewing employees followed by development of written features highlighting individuals and initiatives.
  • Social Media Strategy Development – led research and strategy development on recommendation for use of Instagram. Responsibilities included conducting research on industry and competitor usage, coordinating with agency for input, strategy and recommendation development, delivering presentation pitch to team.
  • Corporate Video – owned development of corporate video. Responsibilities included development of script and shot list, coordination with filming team, logistics around film day, coordination of editing.
  • Sustainability Report – supported corporate team in development of sustainability report including gathering stories from across Takeda and development of content.

Program Timeline Co-Op runs from July 2024 until December 2024 .

U.S. Hourly Wage Range

$12.50 - $19.57

The estimated hourly wage range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
