Communications Assistant for the Town of Davidson.


General Statement of Duties

Provide digital, creative, editorial, operational, and administrative support to the Town of Davidson Communications Department.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class is required to possess a general knowledge of office practices and procedures and perform a variety of functions as they relate to communications and marketing for the Town of Davidson. Work is performed under the direction, guidance, and supervision of the Communications Director.


Essential Duties and Tasks

Works closely with Communications Director to create engaging content for Town of Davidson’s social media presence creating and updating social media posting schedules, including replying to comments from subscribers, keeping social media channels updated and brand-focused, and seeking out new social media avenues and ways of connecting with audiences.


Monitor and evaluate the impact of the Department’s Digital Communications, in particular the Town’s website and social media platforms.


Collects and maintains key performance indicator (KPI) data to determine social media platforms’ success.


Compile data for and create weekly media reports including news media and press mentions.


Compile and maintain KPI data, track metrics from the Town’s third-party email distributor (Constant Contact@).


Maintain and update the Town of Davidson website: uploading and creation of added content, updating existing content, managing the Town’s online form repository, and consulting with external web developers for technical support.


Assist Communications Director with quarterly printed Town Message newsletter production, including, but not limited to content collection and minor editing of copy provided.


Provide logistical and administrative support for events spearheaded by the Communications Department, primarily the Town’s annual Civics 101 course.


Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal and external customers.


Considerable knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft programs to include but not limited to Adobe and Microsoft programs (i.e.: Acrobat, InDesign, Canva, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT, and Teams) with the capability to learn additional computer applications as needed.


Ability to adapt to a fast pace and changing professional environment.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Considerable organizational and time management skills.


Familiarity with social media platforms including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter.


Ability to analyze and interpret policy, procedural guidelines, and to resolve problems and questions independently.
