Summary

 

The South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP) is a non-profit public interest environmental law organization. We use our legal expertise to protect land, water and communities across South Carolina and to achieve our vision of state laws and policies that prioritize natural systems that sustain life. Founded in 1987, SCELP now has a main office in Georgetown and satellite offices in Columbia, Greenville and Mount Pleasant.


Description

 

SCELP is seeking a resourceful and enthusiastic person to join our Development Team and help manage development operations and support successful annual fund plans, special campaigns and related initiatives through analytics and relational philanthropy.

 

The position will report to the Director of Development, and work closely with the Executive Director and other staff and Board members. This demanding job offers unique opportunities for professional growth and career development.

 

The goals and key responsibilities of this position include the following:

 

·      Data management (40%):

 

o  Processing all gifts received by the organization, including direct mail, credit card, online, matching gifts, and in­kind donations, accurately and in a timely manner using the organizational CRM.

o  Entering and updating donor information in the CRM, including “touches” and other interactions.

o  Ensuring acknowledgment letters are timely updated and drafting new or special letters as needed; mailing acknowledgment letters in a timely manner.

o  Providing donor information to other staff members, as requested, and board members to facilitate stewardship practices.

o  Assuring integrity of data and records, deleting duplicate records, auditing data entry of other staff.

o  Addressing and resolving fundraising database issues by effectively managing relevant aspects of the database support process.

o  Running reports and generating contact lists for online fundraising campaigns, special events and direct mail pieces.

o  Works closely with Finance Team on bank deposits and account reconciliation to answer donor administrative questions and ensure consistency between the CRM and the financial records.

 

·      Donor cultivation and stewardship (30%):

 

o  Work with the Development Team to plan and execute the Annual Plan, by:

§ Developing, supporting and executing strategies to identify, research, cultivate and solicit qualified prospects.

§ Checking donor records and generating renewal and other letters according to development plans.

§ Running reports and generating data to support cultivation for increased gifts as well as prospective donors;

§ Assisting with work flow plans and activities for existing and prospective major donors;

§ Scheduling and coordinating meetings with existing and prospective donors;

§ Preparing and mailing new donor packets;

§ Assisting with biannual Newsletter mailing.

 

o  Attend trainings and professional events, and read industry publications to stay informed on donor cultivation and stewardship best practices.

 

·      Supporting cultivation events and annual Wild Side and giving day events (30%):

 

o  Creating, preparing and managing invitation and guest lists.

o  Managing online giving campaigns, with particular attention to the annual Giving Days in coordination with both Development and Communications teams.

o  Coordinating sponsorship recognition/benefits, silent auction, and other development initiatives and components of such events, as needed.

o  Managing tickets sales, registration and attendance lists through the CRM or other suitable systems.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

·      Three or more years of experience in development or closely related field.

·      Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·      Good working knowledge of at least one CRM system and Microsoft Office.

·      Knowledge of principles, practices and ethics of fundraising.

·      Experience with a donor/relational database and familiarity with building queries and running reports.

·      Ability to work independently, while maintaining consistent and transparent communication with a team and leadership.

·      Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a high attention to detail.

·      Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

·      Ability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to new challenges.

·      Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

 

The Development Operations Manager should be extremely competent in working with databases and enjoy talking with donors and meeting people. He/She must also have an appreciation for South Carolina’s land, water and communities.
