West Virginians For Energy Freedom is a coalition of citizens, organizations in your community, local businesses, municipalities, and elected officials advocating for energy freedom in West Virginia. We believe West Virginians should have the freedom to invest in and benefit from locally-owned, renewable, and efficient energy technology. 


About the position: 

WV4EF is seeking a contract communications consultant to work part-time (20 hrs/week) on a five-month campaign. The consultant will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive communications program alongside WV4EF’s external campaign management and partnered communications agency to raise awareness of the coalition's advocacy efforts through messaging and media outreach.. Reporting to the campaign coordinator, the consultant will collaborate with WV4EF coalition members and external partners. 


Qualified applicants will have an understanding of effective media relations, the ability to manage multiple projects, and strong attention to detail. They will be self motivated, though not afraid to ask for help when they need it.  Existing relationships with West Virginia-based media is a plus.


Job Description and Duties

  • Build on and maintain existing campaign message
  • Build audience and increase engagement through social media and creative approaches as determined by the consultant
  •  Work with volunteers to cultivate letters to the editor and gather personal stories
  • Draft written content promoting the campaign
  • Pitch stories to reporters: Earned media will play an important role in the campaign. The communications consultant should maintain a good working relationship with West Virginia-based media to keep them informed about campaign activities. 
  • Manage supporter email campaign: The communications consultant will draft, schedule and send emails to WV4EF supporters based upon campaign developments, as well as draft the monthly newsletter.
