Job Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Well-Being Outreach and Prevention Services, the Health Educator will work to mobilize, create, and sustain campus-wide health promotion initiatives to create an environment that promotes student success and personal development. The Health Educator will work with the Assistant Director of Peer Programs to support the Peer Health Education (PHE) course. Strong attention will be paid to strategies specifically addressing the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), sexual assault awareness and prevention, stress reduction and mental health promotion, and sexual and reproductive health. The Health Educator will be successful by frequently collaborating with campus partners such as the Student Health Center, Recreation & Fitness, Center for Diversity & Inclusion, Center for Student Involvement, and other key departments. The Health Educator will use assessment tools, social marketing, and benchmarking of best practices in the field of health promotion, prevention, and harm reduction to meet our students’ health and wellness needs.

Essential Functions

  • Program Management: Support the Assistant Director of Peer Programs with the Peer Health Education program, including collaborating to run recruitment, PHE training, monthly newsletter production, teaching their weekly class, and coordinating events and programs for the PHEs to facilitate.
  • Outreach Education & Training: Develop, implement, and assess health education programs for the community throughout the year. Topic areas include, but are not limited to emotional health, physical health, sexual health, sexual & interpersonal violence, and more. Facilitate presentations and campus events for both targeted and general audiences. Assist with training of special populations and campus partners.
  • Health Communications: Assist with messaging, marketing, and social media management for the department.
  • Other: Other Duties as Assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

  • Full-Time, 35 Hours Per Week.
  • Schedule: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department. Some evening and weekend hours required. Some travel possible.
  • Type of Staff Position: 10 Month.
  • Basis: 10 months.

Salary Range

  • $43,000 annually

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervision of graduate assistants and undergraduate student interns.

  • Familiarity with social marketing and health communications strategies.
