As the Communications Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading internal and external communications activities agency-wide, including supervising Seneca’s Communications Specialist. In addition, you will collaborate with agency executive leadership to develop and implement a coordinated communication and marketing strategy that reflects Seneca’s mission, vision, organizational priorities, and goals. As the Communications Director, you will work as part of the Strategic Initiatives (SI) team, which is responsible for 1) agency communications, 2) securing public contracts, and 3) advancing policies that reflect the agency’s commitment to Unconditional Care. The SI team is committed to advancing equity and anti-racism and nurturing a welcoming, inclusive, and highly collaborative team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Communication Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with Seneca's mission and goals.
  • Content Creation: Create and curate compelling content for various channels, including website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing collateral.
  • Executive Communications: Support executive leadership by creating compelling copy for all staff communications, internal monthly newsletter, significant program announcements, external op-eds, etc.
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure media coverage and raise Seneca's profile.
  • Brand Management: Ensure consistent branding across all communication materials and maintain brand guidelines.
  • Digital Marketing: Oversee the organization's digital marketing efforts, including website management, SEO optimization, and social media campaigns.
  • Public Relations: Develop and manage public relations campaigns to highlight Seneca's impact and successes.
  • Crisis Communication: When required, handle crisis communication situations by providing timely and accurate information to the public, stakeholders, and the media.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights for communication purposes. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with teams across the organization and serve as their communications partner.
  • Recruitment and Fundraising: Support the Development and Strategic Engagement, and Human Resources teams with their fundraising, and recruitment efforts.
  • Measurement and Reporting: Track and analyze communication efforts, generate reports, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Supervise the Communications Specialist and support their professional development.


Qualifications

Required :

  • Experience/education requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Associate Degree + 1 year of applicable experience OR
    • High School Diploma + 2 years of applicable experience
    • Applicable experience includes relevant experience in a Communications role.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ progressively responsible experience with communications, public relations, and marketing in a relevant organizational context.
  • Own vehicle, Valid California driver's license and insurability with Seneca's automobile policy
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

Preferred :

  • Proficiency in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Schedule

  • Full-time
    • Mon-Fri; 9am-5pm
    • Hybrid; sometimes remote & sometimes onsite at our Oakland office


Benefits

  • Starting $113,656 to $127,656 per year. Actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
  • Additional compensation provided upon passing bilingual language proficiency exam
