Deputy Executive Director of Operations - FORCE Detroit

Our client, , a rapidly growing nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a safer and freer Detroit and Michigan, is seeking a Deputy Executive Director of Operations.

Through its CVI (community violence intervention) programming led by individuals with lived experience, CVI ecosystem support, advocacy, and communications initiatives, FORCE Detroit works in partnership with impacted communities, other nonprofit organizations, and government agencies to improve safety, create opportunities for young people of color to thrive economically and emotionally, and reduce gun violence.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director of Operations will oversee and optimize the organization's operations. This position will be pivotal in setting strategic goals, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of operational strategies to support organizational growth and impact
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new positions and develop employee policies and manuals
  • Establish and maintain systems for reporting, task tracking, and data collection, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with department heads to coordinate organizational planning and cross-functional initiatives
  • Supervise the operations department, including administrative and human resources functions, event planning, facilities, technology support, and security. Ensure legal compliance and the achievement of organizational program goals
  • Provide strategic support to the Executive Director and engage with the coordinating team on programmatic initiatives
  • Lead the hiring process for key positions
  • Contribute to the development and execution of a strategic plan for the organization
  • Provide oversight in managing grants, including assistance with grant applications, reporting, and compliance, as required to supervise the Grants Manager role
  • Support the organization's expansion into an intermediary role for additional CVI sites
  • Provide administrative support and guidance to peers and colleagues at all levels of the organization, ensuring smooth operation of executive functions
  • Organize training sessions and workshops for staff and partners to meet organizational needs and goals
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess program effectiveness and impact

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in nonprofit operations and senior management roles
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to produce high-quality reports and briefs, as well as to proofread/edit the writing of other staff
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational strategies that drive organizational effectiveness
  • Thorough understanding of nonprofit budgeting, human resources practices, and regulatory compliance
  • Passion for FORCE Detroit's mission and commitment to racial justice. Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and deliver results against timelines

Travel Requirements:

Periodic travel across Michigan is required, as well as potential out-of-state travel.

Salary:

The compensation range for this role is $100,000 to $115,000 per year.
