JOB DESCRIPTION: Emory Votes Initiative (EVI) is a coordinated, nonpartisan group of Emory staff, faculty, and students at Emory's Atlanta and Oxford campuses who are committed to helping the campus realize its civic duty by integrating voter registration and education and broader civic engagement opportunities into our campus programming, classrooms, and networking platforms. The Associate Director of Civic Engagement and EVI will play a critical role in handling communications, managing projects, and working with several departments and individuals across the University to support the team in fostering a culture of civic engagement on campus.

This position will be involved in administering and working with EVI members to oversee a range of tasks including but not limited to the following:

  • Serves as the project lead to move forward strategic projects identified by the EVI steering committee.
  • Leads bi-weekly (regular) meetings of the EVI steering committee.
  • Partners with the steering committee to develop, execute, and assess EVI educational and celebratory events including voter outreach and registration, tabling, trainings, transportation to voting, and special events on occasions such as National Voter Registration Day, Election Day, and End of the Year Celebrations.
  • Supports connections with the student body, staff, and faculty through outreach to targeted stakeholders and sharing ways students (graduate and undergraduate) and members of the Emory community can get involved with EVI and in the community, etc.
  • Assists with leading the CCE's efforts in supporting the student groups and initiatives (i.e. service council) centered around service and civic engagement.
  • Creates and supervises the creation of timely content for EVI's main communication tools: website, newsletter, social media. This includes highlighting pertinent election information, key dates, guides, ballot breakdowns, and useful educational content.
  • Publicizes other civic engagement and democracy-related lectures and events at Emory, including maintaining listings for a calendar on the EVI website and sharing information on social media.
  • Promotes the TurboVote voter awareness and registration platform and supports its integration into existing networking platforms.
  • Partners, as needed, with Emory's Office of Government and Community Affairs office to support DeKalb County's polling site location on Emory's campus.
  • Assists in curriculum development with EVI faculty. Supports any University-wide civic engagement efforts the administration may pursue, such as Election Day holidays, consideration of polling places on campus, etc.
  • Supervises paid and unpaid undergraduate and graduate student interns. Continues diversifying the voices and perspectives represented on the EVI steering committee.
  • Collaborates with University communications to support the writing of articles and other communications that highlight important EVI activities.
  • Supports creation of EVI's strategic planning documents, such as the ALL IN Democracy
  • Challenge action plan, and applications for recognition, such as the Voter Friendly Campus designation.
  • Communicates with national partners such as NSLVE (the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement), CVP (Campus Vote Project), CEEP (Campus Election Engagement Project), etc.
  • Represents EVI in biweekly meetings of the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, monthly meetings of Emory Campus Life, the Emory Civic and Community Engagement Round Table, and other University related meetings and events related to the position and approved by the Sr. Director.
  • Supports OxVotes programming and leads student intern at Emory's Oxford campus.
  • Organizes and facilitates fieldtrips to the Georgia State Capitol, including the annual Black History Month Day at the Capitol.
  • Represents EVI in meetings and collaborations with community partners.
  • Maintains assessment and risk management/mitigation systems to measure and maintain program work and safety. This includes utilizing Emory OPEN for events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Applies for and secures grants that help advance the work and mission of EVI.
  • Archives historical materials and maintaining organized documentation of EVI.
  • Assists in playing a leading role in Emory Center for Advancing Nonviolence visioning and oversight.
  • Supports classes, webinars, teachings, workshops, and other educational initiatives connected to college or other external partners that help promote the mission of EVI and the CCE.
  • Supports similar efforts on other Georgia campuses, for example, by participating in the Georgia Civic Campus Network and the Georgia Student Voting Summit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and two years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years or relevant professional work/training experience.
  • Knowledge of the Georgia voting process and an understanding of the laws and how they impact members of the Emory community.
  • Excellent Communicator – both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a diverse and fluid work environment.
  • Maintains high personal standards in behavior, appearance, and attitude.
  • Demonstrates professional and appropriate relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Experience in effectively managing and prioritizing multiple assignments and tasks.
  • Exceptional organizational and managerial skills; must be detail-oriented.
  • Self-motivated and ability to create internal work plans and timelines.
  • Willingness to work at a distinguished, community, and student-focused institution of higher learning.
  • Fluency in computer skills, including Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, and other internet-based programs.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
