Assistant Naturalist, Parks and Recreation
As a valued member of the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Assistant Naturalist is responsible for a variety of nature programs and leadership functions at the Silver Lake Nature Center.
Under the direction of the Director- Naturalist, the Assistant Naturalist duties and responsibilities include:
Utilizes knowledge of recreation, and natural and cultural history to create and provide education and information to the public related to native plants and animals, ecological principles, and natural resource-oriented/outdoor recreation activities.
Prepares and presents interpretive, natural history programs and special events for the public. Assists with program presentation for school, camp, and special programs as needed.
Evaluates public programs and services for quality and effectiveness.
Assists in the operation of the visitor center.
Answers phones, greets visitors, answers questions, shares information and provides assistance as necessary; ensures exhibits are kept neat and orderly at all times.
Assist in the day-to-day administration and maintenance of the nature center facilities.
Perform visitor services such as welcome and inform visitors, take donations, and program registrations, respond to inquiries, etc.
Assist in trail maintenance, and management and monitoring in the preserve.
Assists in natural resource management of the park.
Coordinates the training and scheduling of volunteers; supervise assigned volunteer groups and monitor volunteer performance.
Writes text for park brochures and other publications.
Help develop written materials including brochures, trail guides, press releases, and newsletter articles.
Develop and maintain procedural manuals for job position.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director - Naturalist
