Job Summary

Under the supervision of the HHRI Executive Director, the Program Manager will support HHRI’s strategic and operational goals and program development within the part-time scope of the position. The program manager will: Manage HHRI communications including email, social media, updates to website, membership listservs/announcements, and the quarterly newsletter. Identify key partnerships, schedule meetings, manage agendas for HHRI’s relationships with academic, government, and community-based partners. Scope funding opportunities in the field of refugee and immigrant health. Support preparation of grant applications, materials, and budgets. Contribute to grant reports including data aggregation and basic analysis. Support preparation of materials on HHRI activities. Support HHRI’s training programs in best practices in asylum medicine and human rights by calendaring and advertising training events with diverse learners, collating and disseminating training material, and evaluating the impact of trainings.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

Department Description

The UCSF Health and Human Rights Initiative (HHRI) brings together multidisciplinary partners with decades-long expertise in health services for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. In the spirit of partnering to achieve health equity, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and the Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Pediatrics, along with members of the Trauma Recovery Center / Survivors International and UCSF School of Medicine have united in this initiative to directly affect change for those affected by forced displacement. HHRI’s work includes providing pro bono services in medical and psychological evaluations to document human rights abuses and for immigrants seeking humanitarian protection. Our programs also include training and education, community partnership, research, and advocacy.

HHRI is housed within the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS), which is dedicated to improving health and reducing the burden of disease in the world’s most vulnerable populations. It integrates UCSF expertise in all of the health, social, and biological sciences, and focuses that expertise on pressing issues in global health. IGHS works with partners in countries throughout the world to achieve these aims. IGHS seeks to improve health worldwide, especially in developing countries, through research that informs policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3+ years directly relevant experience
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong policy analysis techniques
  • Skills in using RedCap
  • Knowledge of the field of immigrant and refugee health
  • Knowledge of the landscape of Bay Area resources serving immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers
