Overview

We are looking for a creative, dedicated individual to join our team as a marketing writer/content developer. The marketing writer/content developer will create original content for marketing publications, website and social media, company newsletter, corporate brochures, video storyboards/scripts, advertising, project descriptions, white papers, articles, blog posts, award submittals, internal communications, and marketing campaigns that includes copywriting and coordination of graphics.

Ultimately, you’ll deliver quality writing pieces that appeal to our audiences, attract clients, help recruit talent, and boost brand awareness.

The marketing writer/content developer will work closely with the Director of Marketing and the marketing team to put together editorial calendars for all channels, including digital channels and print media. The marketing writer/content developer must have a curiosity about our business and how we do things to identify content topics that will be of interest to both an internal and external audience.

A successful marketing writer/content developer will have great communication, research, and teamwork skills.

Typical annual pay range for this position is $29.80 - $32.21. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Marketing Writer Responsibilities

  • Work with Marketing Director to identify content goals and strategies
  • Pitch ideas to and work closely with the Marketing Director to ensure all stories are on brand
  • Work with Marketing Director and other members of the marketing team to promote/strengthen Merrick’s brand through written content
  • Contribute to and maintain a content calendar/scheduler to manage content across all channels
  • Write clear, user-friendly marketing copy to promote our services, highlight our culture, and support marketing plans, objectives, and campaigns
  • Write new web content and edit existing content
  • Create compelling headlines and body copy that will capture the attention of the target audience
  • Plan and storyboard videos that communicate the Merrick brand, tell our story, and support business development
  • Analyze performance indicators and web traffic to determine the effectiveness of created content
  • Identify customers’ needs and gaps in our content and recommend new topics
  • Research industry-related topics (combining online sources, interviews, industry trends, and studies) for potential content ideas
  • Collaborating with other business units, departments, and team members and brainstorming subjects for creative content.
  • Proofread and edit content before publication
  • Submit work to Marketing Director and others as appropriate for input and approval
  • Coordinate with creative team to illustrate articles and other content
  • Conduct simple keyword research and use SEO guidelines to increase web traffic
  • Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images, and tone) and follow the Merrick brand standards
  • Create and maintain industry connections to continually refresh knowledge on state-of-the-art content practices and techniques

Marketing Writer/Content Developer Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  • Experience in copywriting or a related field is a plus
  • Experience with SEO is a plus
  • Experience doing research using multiple sources, including interviews
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines
