POSITION TITLE: Manager, Social Impact Practice

 

JOB SUMMARY: Serve as primary contact to membership and the broader public affairs community on social impact programs, strategies and best practices. Manage programs, information resources and member services related to the key Council growth areas of social responsibility, sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion. This position will monitor emerging issues and trends; develop new training programs and other products and services; and recruit experts to speak on webinars, at workshops and at conferences.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION EVENTS:

  • Develop and execute workshops, webinars and other social impact practice events that expand the Council’s audience and help maintain the Council’s reputation as the leader in public affairs training and executive education
  • Plan, execute and grow STRIDE: A Social Impact Summit, which brings together around 100 public affairs professionals each year
  • Lead, plan and execute the Hogans Fellowship, a Foundation for Public Affairs program designed to provide skills training and mentoring for emerging public affairs leaders from diverse backgrounds to grow and sustain a career in public affairs

MEMBER SERVICES:

  • Serve as the Council’s lead expert on social impact which includes social responsibility, sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Create information resources such as tip sheets, newsletter articles and reports that identify and discuss innovative ideas and best practices. Collect and leverage sample materials and case studies from the member community on relevant topics. Increase member communications on trends and emerging issues relevant to the social impact/public affairs community
  • Promote networking and idea-sharing among public affairs professionals through events, surveys, the Council’s online community platform and other forms of community-building.
  • Deliver trainings and speeches as needed for Council members and the broader public affairs community
  • Assist with customized benchmarking for Council members and project manage confidential consulting work as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Understanding of and passion for CSR and social impact efforts
  • Excellent communication skills as both a public speaker (prepared and extemporaneous) and writer with solid editing skills
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, balance many projects at one time, and meet deadlines and objectives without direct supervision or administrative assistance
  • Knows how to be successful in a team-oriented, fast-paced and member-focused work environment
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, often without complete information
  • Ability to moderate conference panels, engage with senior-level professionals and effectively leverage board members
  • Has entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, enthusiasm and strong problem-solving skills, with an interest in staying ahead of the curve and coaching others to do the same

CREDENTIALS AND PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • BA degree in relevant field
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in a corporate and/or association public affairs setting
  • Experience working successfully with senior-level executives and diverse audiences
  • Public speaking, writing, project management, event planning and consulting experience
