Description

As the Director of Features, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our content strategy and leading our team of writers and reporters. Reporting directly to the editor-in-chief, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of compelling stories, features, and multimedia content across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a stable of feature writers and editors in steering the direction, look and feel, editorial accuracy, and overall quality standards for all FOS feature stories—enterprise, investigative, etc.
  • Collaborate with writers and editors to ideate, assign, edit, and produce content across FOS.
  • Create engaging, entertaining stories that break news, drive conversations, and attract attention and awards.
  • Lead regular features meetings and event/topic planning sessions.
  • Stay updated on industry headlines and trends to inform FOS coverage.
  • Manage copy flow from writers to editors, copy editors, and production.
  • Develop new monetizable story types and offshoots, lead special-event coverage, and integrate content throughout FOS platforms.
  • Maintain consistent relationships with other business initiatives and vendors across FOS.
  • Ensure content is creative, intelligent, planned out, original, clean, and fresh while aligning with the FOS-verse.
  • Ensure seamless coordination with the broader content team to align content with overall editorial and programming calendars.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience in journalism, editorial leadership, or content management, preferably surrounding business and the business of sports.
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality feature content under tight deadlines.
  • Strong editorial judgment, storytelling skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in digital media tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
  • Passion for the business of sports, and a deep understanding of the surrounding culture, industry trends, and audience preferences.
