Position Description

The Program Research Associate will play a key support role in creating evidence-based program resources while assisting the National Planning Department with original program and field experiments. This person will be a critical part of updating and managing America Votes' 2024 program analysis. An ideal candidate is systems and detail oriented, on the job training is expected and encouraged. This position reports directly to the National Director of Research and Program Innovation while supporting other projects in the department.

Location

The location for this position is the Washington, DC area or in one of our core states. America Votes operates in a hybrid fashion and has offices in DC and AZ, CO, FL, GA, MI, MN, NC, NH, NM, NV, OH, PA, and WI.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in research and development of evidence-based resources, including phone and canvass script templates.
  • Conduct background program research for incubating strategic initiatives.
  • Design templates and visualizations for products and presentations.
  • Support internal materials translation process.
  • Administer an internal archive of documents.
  • Support department with budgets, universes, and creative design when running original program and field experiments.
  • Maintain a series of workbooks that AV staff use to plan their 2024 programs.
  • Assist in race equity review of all departmental materials.
  • Lead the update and implementation of cycle program analysis including managing the quality scoring rubric and systems for reviewing scripts and mail in realtime.
  • Attend and take notes for internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain departmental systems, including an internal shared drive and monthly newsletter.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Ideal candidates will have 1-2 years of experience in progressive political campaigns, progressive non-profits (with an organizing focus), or within similar entities.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm with working in a diverse spaces, along with competence in race equity and gender equity dynamics.
  • Comfort with designing presentations in Powerpoint, Google Slides, and Canva.
  • Ability to work independently and to drive and manage own workload; ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively by making and meeting team goals.
  • Excellent writing, communication, presentation, and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and a sense of humor.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of and experience with independent expenditure political campaigns.
  • Experience with evidence-based campaign practices.
  • Experience or training in race equity/anti-racist frameworks; a general understanding of how power intersects with gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and class.
  • Competency in reading and writing in Spanish or other language common among New Americans.

Compensation

This position is full-time and runs through March 31, 2025. Salary is commensurate with experience, $65,000-$75,000 annually.
