Job Description

The College of Southern Nevada’s Marketing & Communications team seeks an excellent writer who can shift from speechwriting to crafting social media posts to creating meaningful newsletter content all in a single day.


We’re here to tell people how great CSN is, and we need a talented wordsmith to help. The right candidate will be able to manage the intake, prioritization, and assignment of communications requests, ensure the implementation of brand identity and accessibility standards in all communications, and integrate the college’s communication goals and objectives into all aspects of their work.


The communications manager will plan, execute, monitor, and complete college-wide initiatives that support our department’s main goal: To increase certificate and degree completions by positively impacting enrollment and retention. Duties also include leading regular status meetings, assisting in promoting events, developing, and providing insight over communications plans, publications, and media, including print, web, and social.


The person we hire will have a proven history of developing and executing successful communications strategies and will hold an in-depth knowledge of best practices and technologies. Must be able to build strong partnerships with college leadership and colleagues to understand needs and prioritize accordingly. Must be capable of serving as a project lead and/or supporting others.


Key Responsibilities include not limited to:

  • Curate, construct, and distribute regular college-wide communications, e.g., Weekly Events, Employee of the Month, In the News, affinity groups and holidays.
  • Write and revise talking points, speeches, press releases, website posts, and other communications materials.
  • Develop multi-channel communications strategies to promote the College and its various campus programs, activities, or events.
  • Manage the intake, prioritization, and assignment of Communications Requests.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive brand message across all channels.
  • Review and approve campaign artwork.
  • Oversee content development for the College's website, marketing collateral, and social media.
  • Manage, mentor, and create professional development pathways for junior team members.
  • Analyze and report on campaign performance using data to optimize future strategies.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of professional experience as a journalism, marketing, or communications professional.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years professional experience as a journalism, marketing, or communications leader.
  • 1 year experience developing and leading a high-performing team.
  • Demonstrated higher education communication experience.
  • Experience with social media platforms and management of multiple social media accounts; current knowledge of social media trends; can use social media tools to engage and promote CSN programmatic initiatives.
  • Experience with content management software and proficiency in writing and editing web content.


The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Comfortable writing and editing quickly.
  • Ability to lead and delegate tasks thoughtfully.
  • Highly collaborative within a team setting.
  • Possess very strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • Will take initiative, ask questions, and are accountable.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with tools such as Monday.com, Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, and Microsoft programs.
  • Must Include the team in decision-making processes and ask for feedback, guidance, and insight.


Salary Information:

 

Administrative Faculty D - The starting salary is $75,564.00
