National Geographic Travel is looking for a Senior Digital Editor to join our incredible team! This person will assign and edit travel stories for our digital audiences while taking a lead contributing role in developing story ideas , refining story framing, and offering subject matter expertise.

National Geographic Travel is looking for a Senior Digital Editor to join our incredible team! This person will assign and edit travel stories for our digital audiences while taking a lead contributing role in developing story ideas , refining story framing, and offering subject matter expertise.
What You Will Do:
- Pitch and develop story ideas that resonate with our audience and align with our content strategy.
- Assign stories to freelancers by communicating appropriate story framing, story length, and deadlines.
- Collaborate with photo editors, graphics editors and video editors to communicate story details and overall expectations.
- Grow our freelancer base by seeking engaging writers who have expertise in travel and can deliver clean copy on deadline.
- Edit and produce search-optimized digital content upon delivery from the assigned freelancer, upholding Nat Geo’s editorial standards and agreed upon framing and promotional expectations.
- Collaborate with the Digital Executive Editor to identify digital content for cross-platform consideration and editorial colleagues to re-edit content for multiplatform experiences.
- Represent National Geographic for internal speaking engagements as well as external media promotional opportunities.
- Monitor industry and competitive landscape, keeping digital trends top of mind.
- Synthesize digital readership data on a regular basis while experimenting with publishing tactics to reach new audiences.
- Prioritize National Geographic’s key performance indicators, which may require adjusting strategies.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the editing space.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and consistently deliver quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with diplomatic temperament and ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Deep familiarity with and appreciation for digital publishing and travel.
- Proficiency in digital content management systems, Microsoft’s product suite, Adobe Analytics, and HTML.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
