ENTRY-LEVEL REPORTING JOB OPEN AT WISPOLITICS


WisPolitics.com, Wisconsin’s premier online news service and part of the State Affairs Network, is looking for an aggressive, enterprising Madison-based reporter interested in covering state government and politics in a perennial swing state.


The job entails producing daily copy on happenings in the Wisconsin Capitol and on the campaign trail, as well as producing products such as the DC Wrap newsletter and the Capitol Chats podcast, plus weekly enterprise pieces produced through beat reporting and filing open records requests.


The job is an entry-level position geared toward recent college graduates and new reporters looking for an initial experience covering government and politics full-time. Professional experience, including through internships, is a plus.


Duties and responsibilities:


--Works collaboratively with others to tell impactful stories across platforms.

--Reports and writes short-form and long-form stories on deadline for email products and the website.

--Strives to own their beats, breaking news in day-to-day coverage through source-driven stories.

--Co-writes the DC Wrap newsletter on Wisconsin’s congressional delegation.

--Produces podcasts.

--Edits and sends email products to subscribers, as well as posting content to the website via WordPress.


Qualifications:


--Self-starter more interested in reporting stories based on human sources than press releases.

--Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field.

--A firm commitment to nonpartisan news coverage.

--Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including editing and storytelling abilities.

--Deep understanding of the principles of journalism, ethical guidelines, and legal considerations.

--Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and social media platforms.


Salary range: starting at $41,500 a year, depending upon experience, with health care benefits and 401(k.).
