Job Description

Times Opinion is looking for an experienced part-time copy editor to work on Opinion’s audio-show transcripts and occasionally Opinion’s other signature journalism. Opinion's audio offerings include The Ezra Klein Show and Matter of Opinion.

You have deep experience with the copy-editing process and have thoughtful editorial judgment. You will work with story editors and fact-checkers to help us spot problems with articles before publication. You are digitally experienced and enthusiastic about Opinion’s daily report. You will report into the Assistant Editor, Opinion | Copy, Research, Print.

Responsibilities


  • You will copy edit sharply, elevating articles on the sentence level for clarity
  • You will be responsible for copy editing transcripts, headlines and other display copy and see the transcripts through to publication
  • You will ensure accuracy and consistency across a range of content, including newsletters, editorials, guest essays, columns and videos


Basic Qualifications


  • At least 5 years of copy-editing experience
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including late evenings, as the news cycle demands
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Experience working with deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with a style guide
  • Familiarity with The New York Times Opinion's daily report
  • Can respond to the demands of the news cycle


This is a part-time Guild position based in California.

This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.

The hourly base pay for this role is between $61.38 and $61.54.
