Job Summary:

Crooked is hiring for a host/reporter in the Daily News department reporting to EP of Daily News. You will host of Crooked's daily news podcast, What A Day. This job will work with the podcast production team, the What A Day newsletter team and external contributors to produce a high-quality, politics-centered, daily news show.

This job will be based in Los Angeles or Washington, D.C. and will work Sunday-Thursday, from approximately 11am-7:30pm PT/ 2pm-10:30pm ET in the office. The position must be in the studio for audio and video records 5 days a week.

How You'll Spend Your Time:

Helping to shape a refreshed What A Day podcast (audio and video) (First 2-3 months)

• Play a key role in developing the next iteration of What A Day
• Pilot and test new approaches and new workflows
• Help shape and refine editorial approach of new show
• Work collaboratively across departments (including Audio, Video, Social and Marketing teams)
  
  

Hosting the new What A Day podcast (audio and video) (After piloting)

• Lead host of our daily news podcast
• Help shape editorial coverage and approach, working alongside Daily News team
• Write and refine scripts
• Work closely with producer to create high-impact news interviews for the show
• Host short-form original video content, including explainers
• Contribute to social media content and strategy
• Contribute to the WAD newsletter when appropriate
• Represent What A Day on other Crooked properties when appropriate
• Jump in during breaking news events
  
  

What You'll Bring To The Table:

• Ability to work from the Crooked office in Los Angeles or Washington D.C. 5 days a week and during breaking news
• 9+ years of experience as a reporter and/or host
• A thoughtful and curious approach to daily news, especially politics and policy
• The ability to find joy and have some fun in a daily news context
• Unimpeachable journalistic standards and expertise
• The willingness to share earned opinions while staying on the right side of facts
• Able and willing to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news
• A collaborative and kind approach to working with colleagues
• A flexibility and willingness to experiment as we seek to identify the future of our daily news products

When we open up a position, we conduct a market analysis to ensure we have the most up-to-date data. Once we're ready to extend an offer, we look at the individual's years of relevant experience and other compensable factors to determine a competitive offer. And for this role, the starting salary range is $110,000 - $115,000.
