Since 1977, the White Bear Area Food Shelf has been a trusted food safety-net for those experiencing food insecurity. WBAFS delivers innovative programs that bring the community together to support neighbors with low-barrier food access to healthy and culturally connected food.
The Communications Specialist will oversee and deliver a multi-channel communications plan, collaborating with staff, volunteers, and partners to convey the organization’s work and impact to a variety of audiences.
Responsibilities:
· Coordinate communications and outreach material development and dissemination including quarterly newsletter, annual report, website, social media, donor outreach and appeal materials, flyers and brochures, news articles and community posts, regular tailored communications to donors and volunteers, signage for programs and events.
· Collaborate with volunteer and paid service providers to ensure timely delivery of communications materials, including graphic designer, web designer, translation services, printers, etc.
· Produce a variety of materials that demonstrate the impact of the organization to advance development and marketing efforts.
o Draft copy for letters, speeches, presentations, posters, websites, reports (i.e. Annual Report), flyers, brochures, signs etc.
o Design and produce social media posts, flyers, brochures, presentations, graphics.
· Develop and implement an online engagement strategy to nurture, inform, and engage partners, volunteers, donors, and neighbors. Regularly maintain external communication channels with fresh content. Monitor and increase engagement across all channels including website, social media, email, etc.
· Collect, organize, and maintain quotes and stories from neighbors, volunteers, community members, partners, donors, and staff.
· Support staff members in the creation and review of all materials that will be disseminated to the public to ensure consistency of message and brand.
· Support community partners with their fundraising events and campaigns with materials and promotion.
Qualifications:
· Strong, proven written communication skills in differentiated communications styles for a variety of audiences.
· Experience managing content and engaging audiences on social media.
· Proven experience with basic graphic design and strong instincts for pleasing design aesthetics.
· Experience working with a variety of content design and delivery software like Adobe, Canva, Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram.
· Three years of communications and/or marketing experience.
· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field, preferred.
· Experience working with non-profits and fundraising preferred.
· Bilingual – English and Spanish or Hmong preferred.
