Content Strategist

Benefits Data Trust (BDT) seeks a Content Strategist to help the organization effectively communicate how it helps people live healthier, more independent lives by creating smarter ways to access essential benefits and services. As a Communications & Marketing Team member, the Content Strategist will help conceptualize, produce and distribute compelling content across channels with a focus on developing messages and marketing materials in support of BDT’s business development goals. The Content Strategist will also manage BDT’s brand messaging and identity through conceiving, writing, and producing blog posts, scripts, issue briefs, fact sheets, and promotional collateral. The Content Strategist is a highly visible role that requires collaboration with colleagues across the organization at all levels to amplify BDT’s impact and positions on key policies or practices for external audiences.

The Content Strategist will report to the Senior Director of Communications & Marketing.

BDT is a remote-first organization. Employees may work remotely or from BDT’s Philadelphia office. BDT has also adopted a mandatory vaccination and testing policy to safeguard the health of our employees from the hazard of COVID-19. Employees may request an exemption from the policy by providing documentation for medical or religious reasons if needed.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the development and distribution of content to engage external audiences by promoting BDT’s products, services, programs, and initiatives through the organization’s website, blog, email, newsletter, webinars, testimonials, marketing collateral and more

• Act as the editor for BDT’s website by drafting, editing, and proofreading content as needed and by supporting the development of new web content, including the launch of new pages, graphics, and videos

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to regularly assess the development and prioritization of new content based on audience needs, including those of donors, government agencies, healthcare providers, and higher education institutions

• Develop and maintain an understanding of BDT’s strategies, tactics, and campaigns in multiple states and as relates to healthcare and higher education to communicate effectively about BDT’s mission and goals

• Act as the point person for drafting and/or reviewing content shared by external organizations

• Research, write, or edit all levels of copy, including blog posts, newsletters, website copy, presentations, scripts, fact sheets, and other marketing collateral

• Serve as the point person to maintain brand strategies and guidelines, enabling BDT to communicate with consistency, including reviewing presentations and communications materials created by other teams as needed to ensure branding is consistent

• Collaborate with the Associate Director of Communications & PR to build media campaigns in support of BDT business objectives

Requirements:

• At least five to seven years of experience developing content, including at least two years for a government, nonprofit, healthcare, or tech market. Content marketing experience a plus

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field

• Creative, innovative content planner and writer with strong storytelling skills and demonstrated experience in fact-checking and copy editing

• Knowledge of Google Analytics and SEO-optimization techniques a plus

• Ability to ghost-write content, effectively conveying the thought leader’s expertise and voice

• Ability to communicate effectively both on paper and in person

• Capable of collaborating across cross-functional teams and work independently

• Excellent research skills

• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Adobe InCopy, InDesign and/or Illustrator a plus

The salary range starts at $80,000 and is commensurate with relevant experience.
