The Communications & Marketing Manager will report directly to the CEO with steering and professional guidance from the Senior Director of Creative Development, working to both shape and further the organization’s strategic goals, helping to craft and support CRF™’s communication’s strategy, and strategically increasing awareness of CRF™ amongst its target audiences.

The Communications & Marketing Manager will collaborate with other members of the CRF™ team to implement outreach and communications strategies for the exposure and promotion of Coral Restoration Foundation™ through multiple communications channels. The Communications and Marketing Manager will directly supervise the staff of the communications department.

Applicants must demonstrate exemplary written communications skills, and proven proficiency in creating concise and impactful media content that garners attention. They must have a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail and be able to communicate scientific concepts in ways that are engaging for diverse audiences.

BA or higher degree and five to ten years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination. Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team setting. Must have excellent organization and leadership skills. Creativity is a must with attention to detail and the ability to multitask. Flexible days and hours is essential to attend occasional evening or weekend events.

Preference will be given to applicants that have experience working with non-profits and a passion for marine conservation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

COMMUNICATIONS

CONTENT CREATION: Ensure preparation, edits, and distribution of CRF™ communications including e-newsletters, social media, e-commerce, advertisements, promotional materials, etc. while adhering to CRF™’s branding guidelines and organizational values
SOCIAL MEDIA: Build and ensure execution of social media strategy through competitive research, benchmarking, and audience identification: Stay up to date with developments in the social media landscape and respond accordingly; Monitor digital channels for content updates regularly including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Tik Tok; Track and report website and social media metrics in quarterly analytical reports and as needed
E-NEWSLETTER: Oversee creation and publication of CRF™ weekly Coral Chronicles email; Grow and manage CRF™’s email list utilizing best practices
OUTREACH: Coordinate, attend, and support outreach as needed including local, state, and nationwide events; Represent or speak on behalf of CRF™ at public or professional events as requested
EVENTS: Support CRF™-wide event coordination, marketing, and implementation efforts

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Coordination and implementation of collaborative press events
Help facilitate day-of production of all media projects, ideally while on CRF™ boats and charter boats
Represent or speak on behalf of CRF™ at public or professional events as requested
Coordinate and support CRF™ staff in public speaking and interview engagements

MEDIA MANAGEMENT

Ensure the creation of engaging digital content by participating in CRF Education, Science, and Restoration events, ideally including SCUBA diving and coral restoration-related activities and training
Assist with generating, managing, cataloging, editing, copyrighting CRF™, and managing third-party usage of CRF™ image and video assets

MARKETING

Design and implement marketing campaigns for all CRF™ Departments
Proofread and help edit all CRF™ marketing and publicity materials
Market CRF™ products using Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and earned media marketing to increase sales

CAUSE-RELATED MARKETING

Develop content and help foster relationships with partners, sponsors, influencers, and other collaborators
Assist Development Team with web-based /community promotional and fundraising campaigns

BRAND MANAGEMENT

Ensure all CRF™ products are designed, produced, and promoted in keeping with the CRF™ brand guide and organizational values
Assist in determining new product lines for the Gift SHop, including developing designs, and supplier sourcing.

FISCAL & MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the Communications Department budget forecasting, allocation, and reporting
Maintain records, invoices, purchase orders, and receipts for all departmental purchases and submit monthly departmental expense reports
Directly supervise the staff of the communications department including regular performance reviews and evaluations.
Provide administrative oversight for the Communications Department including but not limited to time off approvals, and new hire processes

TRAINING

Assist with mentoring and developing staff and interns’ skills and expertise

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Bachelor's degree in media, marketing, public relations, business, or a related field
Five to 10 years of broad experience in communications, marketing, journalism, and nonprofit organizations
A record of accomplishment designing and implementing successful marketing campaigns across diverse platforms and for diverse audiences
Established a network of professional relationships with representatives from key media outlets, local, regional, national, and preferably international
Experience working with databases, including managing and tracking data
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to analyze information for the purpose of preparing reports, coordinating efforts and solving problems.
Ability to communicate seamlessly with a variety of different audiences both verbal and written
Strong understanding of general computer technology
Advanced computer skills required: Mac, Microsoft, MailChimp, Adobe, web, and social media savvy
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to plan and manage projects to successful and timely completion
Willingness to learn and take direction

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of ocean and coral reef ecosystems

• Demonstrated interest in environmental issues and conservation.

• SCUBA diving experience

• Proficiency in photography, videography, and photo editing

CRF™ operates with a small staff and relies on our seasonal interns as well as local volunteers to accomplish our mission and work effectively on the water. We are a lean operation, and teamwork is crucial to our success. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

The position is mostly office/clerical with occasional press and outreach events that may include excursions by boat. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. They are frequently required to use finger and hand motions and occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. They must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Team member primarily works in a normal office environment under moderate heat and noise levels.
