DeSmog is looking for a Digital Engagement Coordinator to join our award-winning team of journalists and researchers: the world’s number-one source for accurate, fact-based information regarding global warming misinformation campaigns.

We are growing fast and we’re looking for a Digital Engagement Coordinator to grow with us!

You will play a key role in engaging online audiences — and empowering them to demand climate accountability.

Our small but mighty team currently spans nine time zones and covers topics ranging from fossil fuel greenwashing, hypocrisy, and the influence of vested interests on climate policy, to the broader systemic infection of democracies by so-called “free market” principles. Our work is targeted and high-impact, used in congressional hearings in the U.S. Senate, by MPs in UK Parliament, and by law firms and climate campaigners across the world.

Your responsibilities at DeSmog will include:

Social media management

Write engaging and timely posts to spotlight our articles on social media channels.
Manage a monthly budget for ad-hoc paid promotion: monitor the performance of all stories on social and the website and analyze key metrics to decide which stories to boost through paid promotion.
Collaborate with editors to design and manage social media paid promotion and fundraising campaigns.
Analyze and report the performance data of paid campaigns to generate actionable insights for DeSmog.
Monitor and reply to comments and messages on behalf of DeSmog.

Digital engagement

Share insights and expertise with the editorial team through occasional presentations and training on social media and online engagement best practices.
Nurture reciprocity and sharing in the DeSmog community: reach out to allies and supporters with stories of interest to them and amplify their relevant content.
With editorial guidance (until you’re comfortable), engage with climate influencers on social media and track the impact of your outreach.
Build and send two weekly newsletters (international and UK) with the editorial team’s content and input. Use insights from past newsletter performance to increase open, click, and subscribe rates.
Regularly post stories to content partners’ sharing libraries.

Requirements (what we need from all applicants):

Degree in communications/marketing OR 2-3 years of work experience in social media/communications/marketing.
15 to 20 hours of availability per week, with flexibility to respond and post stories in a timely manner. Ideally based in the Eastern time zone (i.e. New York, DC, Montreal, Toronto, etc.).

Criteria (the skills, experience and qualities we are looking for):

You have experience with social media management, content marketing, supporter fundraising, and audience engagement.
You have a calling to put your skills to work for a sustainable and equitable world.
You are familiar with major online data and ad platforms, particularly Facebook Business Manager, Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, and Google Ad Network. Experience with email marketing software is a bonus.
You are confident using data and analytics to inform decision making.
You are also confident in being creative.
You are kind, compassionate, and engaging — and it shows in your communication style.
You are comfortable in a small, fully remote, agile team, spread across multiple continents and time zones.
You excel at managing your time, working independently, taking initiative, and organizing yourself.
And you always double-check links, proofread posts, and work with attention to detail.

Compensation

Hourly compensation during a 3-month trial period. We want to ensure you are the right fit and that you are enjoying the position. After that period we will revisit the option to convert to an ongoing monthly retainer.
