GenPride’s Communications Coordinator is a data nerd, storyteller, and introverted community builder who centers racial justice within community-centric fundraising/communications principles, community engagement, and strategic communications to reach multiple audiences to benefit Seattle/King County LGBTQIA+ older adults. The Communications Coordinator is deeply collaborative and motivated to engage, build, and strengthen GenPride’s relational and resource capacity and thrives in an organization poised for growth, change, and transformation.

This part-time position works primarily in-person, in a community center setting with frequent and regular interruptions. The Communications Coordinator’s schedule includes some early morning, evening, and weekend hours. This position reports to the Engagement and Development Director and engages staff, partners, participants, volunteers, board members, and supporters to meet goals.

GenPride advocates for the unique needs of older LGBTQIA2S+ adults throughout Seattle and King County, and offers innovative programs and services that promote well-being, prevent social isolation, and cultivate belonging, justice, and liberation.

In the heart of Capitol Hill in Seattle, GenPride is central to Pride Place, the first affordable housing built for LGBTQIA2S+ and allied older adults in collaboration with Community Roots Housing. The GenPride Center is located on the ground floor of Pride Place to provide culturally relevant health and support services and programs to enhance the quality of life. We envision Pride Place as a fabulous place for LGBTQIA2S+ older adults to gather and as a hub for GenPride’s county-wide efforts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Coordinator collaborates widely to mobilize, strengthen, and build GenPride’s network of individuals and organizations through messaging development, digital and print communications community-centric principles.

Strategic Communications, Story telling, & Marketing (90%)

Coordinate communications strategies to elevate GenPride’s voice and drive our engagement strategies.
Assist with GenPride’s internal and external messaging to expand and deepen connection to our work, including content creation and curation for a variety of sources like the e-newsletter, website, social media channels and in-person outreach.
Collaborate widely to develop, prioritize, and implement key communications plans, messages, and organizational storytelling.
Coordinate organization-wide communications calendar to ensure effective and strategic use of publications, email campaigns, social media, and other platforms.
Collaborate with GenPride staff and Executive Director to increase programmatic, elevate key messages and storytelling, and integrate organizational efforts.
Manage donor and communications data, lists, mail merge, and reports.

Internal Leadership (10%):

Assist with event planning, preparation, and evaluation.
Partner with and respond to directions to implement GenPride’s communications efforts in a values-aligned way that emphasizes mutual trust, support, autonomy, and commitment to supporting the leadership of team members.
Understand and integrate racial justice into individual and team work plans, and broader strategic planning efforts. 
Commit to personal growth, learning, and transformation, taking the initiative to expand your understanding of racial justice and related principles, issues, and practice and how they apply to your and our work.
Meaningfully participate in caucus groups, organizational learning sessions, and other opportunities to shape our organizational culture.
Actively participate in evolving the organizational culture at GenPride to be mission-focused, inclusive, values-aligned, and community-centered. 
Contribute to developing a culture of engagement at GenPride.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A deep commitment to equity and social justice and experience working with people with a breadth of lived experiences, especially those who have been disproportionately impacted by injustices, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC folks.
Ability to authentically connect with GenPride's mission and aspirations through your personal experiences.
The ability to cultivate relationships and work effectively with a broad spectrum of people, including building quick credibility and ongoing trust with coworkers, partners, volunteers, and elders.
At least two years of experience coordinating and managing projects in a professional setting with many engaged and diverse stakeholders.
1 years of experience working with volunteers
Strong and versatile communication and storytelling skills, including writing, speaking, and synthesizing information for various audiences.
Experience with bulk email and donor management platforms, as well as strong skills across social media platform use and best practices.
Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Ability to work well in a collaborative environment, willing to communicate and welcome ideas and suggestions.
Ability to take and provide direction and feedback with care and adapt quickly to evolving priorities.
Understands the foundational role that racism, ableism, sexism, ageism, homo and transphobia, and other forms of bias and oppression play in perpetuating inequity. Committed to eliminating the impact of inequities within the scope and purpose of this role.
Demonstrated capacity for self-reflection, humility, and curiosity, and skilled in repairing professional relationships.
Proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) and Adobe Suite, and willingness to adapt to new technologies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Complete COVID vaccination is required. Physical skills and ability to perform work that requires sitting, moving around the center, stooping, bending, and lifting to 25 pounds. Able to work in a community center setting with frequent and regular interruptions, including some early morning, evening, and weekend hours,

COMPENSATION

Wage: $28.00 per hour. Average 20 hours and a potential range of 15-25 hours weekly.
