GRID Alternatives is seeking a creative and dynamic, interculturally aware person to serve as Communications Assistant. The Assistant is part of a small but growing communications team that works to elevate GRID’s brand, mission and impact, and helps position GRID as a leader in renewable energy access for economic and environmental justice communities. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, this role serves as key support staff within the HQ Communications department and is responsible for helping manage incoming communications and marketing support requests from across the organization, project management, special projects, scheduling on behalf of the VP, creating presentations and talking points, and offering support across a wide variety of communications projects, including social media posts, flyers, copy writing and editing, and operations and marketing support.

A successful candidate will be a skilled communications and marketing professional with experience in project management, marketing, and communication, with a strong skillset in writing, editing, organization, collaborative remote working, and design. The individual should also have experience in supporting an executive and a keen understanding of renewable energy, environment or related issues.

The Opportunity…

Administrative Support - 50%

Provide communications and administrative support for the VP of Communications and the GRID Headquarters Communications team
Manage the calendar for the VP of Communications and coordinate meetings
Support the VP of Communications with managing and executing special projects
Provide support for the department’s workflows and projects, using the team’s project management software, help support incoming work requests
Create slide decks, presentations, and talking points for important meetings and events

Content Creation & Management - 25%

Work with GRID’s in-house communications team and outside consultants to support development of, and to maintain communication assets, including digital and print collateral, videos, and a photo bank
Manage translation of collateral materials and the website into multiple languages, working with external vendor
Help develop & manage internal communications for GRID (e.g. newsletter, Jive posts, email updates, participating in working group meetings)

Marketing Support - 25%

Co-develop and support implementation of marketing strategies with GRID Headquarters Communications team for GRID’s programs and departments, including workforce, outreach, and Program Administration
Support marketing efforts across various GRID audiences (e.g. tenants, CBOs, job trainees, job training organizations, local governments) through formats such as marketing and promotional content for webinars, workshops, and events; social media campaigns; and website content and updates

What you need to bring to this role…

Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to tailor content and delivery to a variety of audiences with different education levels and linguistic backgrounds
Marketing experience to support project success with both community and sponsor/funder/partner audiences
Experience in designing audience/user journeys (both on- and off-line), developing effective content and materials to support those journeys, and measuring success
Fluency using a variety of digital tools and platforms, such as content management systems, web analytics, design software, project/task management and team communications apps, database programs, video hosting services and brand management software
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with community partners, with a deep understanding and practice of equity
Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

It would be great if you also had…

2-3 years of experience in communications and marketing roles, preferably non-profit or service-related
Experience participating in UX or program design processes
Lived or professional experience with immigrant communities, communities of color, or environmental justice communities
Passion for environmental justice, economic justice and an equitable transition to clean energy

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

This is a fully REMOTE position working out of GRID HQ in Oakland, CA; however, the Coordinator may have the option to work from any of GRID's CA-based offices for all or a portion of their work week, to be agreed upon with their supervisor. This position may rarely require out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.

GRID Alternatives provides vehicles for work travel, and due to COVID-19 current guidelines, we may also require limited personal vehicle use. In the latter instance, GRID will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use in accordance with our payroll schedule. Additionally, all applicants who will be using a personal or work vehicle for work-related travel will need a valid driver's license and a good driving record to be considered.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hourly pay commensurate with experience within the pay range of ($22 - $24 per hour) plus the benefits listed below. *All Remote & Remote/Location Flexible Positions MUST reside within the U.S., and require proof of residency.
