The Position: Director of Marketing & Digital Strategy

The role of Director of Marketing & Digital Strategy is designed to enhance the operational and creative capacity of the Strategic Communications department. Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications & Policy, the person in this role will help inform the vision and execution of Hopelab’s external communications, focusing heavily on the Digital Strategy and Marketing & Brand work streams of the department, including working with their Media and Editorial colleague, Hopelab’s external communications agency, interns, and consultants. The Director will help lead our efforts to effectively tell the Hopelab story, raise awareness of our products and programs, and influence the way people are thinking about youth, health, technology, and the work of our organization. The Director will also support the Head of Strategic Communications & Policy in leading Hopelab’s policy and advocacy priorities.

Position Responsibilities

Work with the Head of Strategic Communications & Policy to develop the Digital and Marketing & Brand strategies for Hopelab
Serve as Hopelab’s “keeper of the brand,” including informing internal and external partners of our Brand Guidelines and enforcing the use of those guidelines on all external-facing assets
Develop and implement Hopelab’s platform-specific social media strategies
Develop, implement, and maintain internal social media policies and standards, and ensure conformance to Hopelab standards
Manage Hopelab’s graphic design requests and production, ensuring all content fits the organization’s Brand Guidelines
Manage Hopelab’s digital assets (social media, website, newsletter, photos/videos, podcasts, etc.) and develop a digital content calendar that aligns with Hopelab’s communications strategy
Collaborate with Media and Editorial colleague (and any related consultants) to develop strategy, content calendar, and produce related content for the Hopelab newsletter and the blog
Manage and keep track of all licensing rights and timelines related to assets (photography, videography, logos, etc.) not owned by Hopelab
Develop and manage Hopelab’s marketing & brand strategy, including brand partnerships, advertising, marketing campaigns, etc
Manage Hopelab’s event sponsorship strategy and its implementation, including logistical planning and execution, sourcing and securing event opportunities in line with Hopelab’s strategic objectives, and the production of all marketing collateral for each event
Develop and manage a celebrity influencer/Brand Ambassador program for Hopelab, including adhering to standard risk mitigation principles
Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure Hopelab’s strategic use of its communications channels to support the overall goals of the organization
Support colleagues in developing digital and marketing content for Hopelab’s internal communications channels and external platforms
Manage, assess, and report on all digital, marketing, and brand analytics, and make recommendations on any changes in strategy required to continue to grow Hopelab’s audience and deepen its engagement
Partner with Hopelab’s leadership team(s) and key project staff to support and enhance their roles as ambassadors of Hopelab’s work
Identify, engage, and oversee consulting resources, as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Strategic Communications & Policy
Support in identifying, developing and managing HL's policy platform and advocacy agenda
Support the monitoring and analysis of proposed legislative actions, determining the potential impact on Hopelab and its partners, and developing appropriate responses
Support new and existing relationships with policymakers and partners that support and advance Hopelab’s mission
With the full Strategic Communications team, support in developing a targeted list of thought-leadership opportunities for HL senior leaders and key staff to influence policy

Candidate Requirements

An ambitious communications professional (at least 15 years of experience) with strong content research and curatorial competencies
Integrated marketing/PR communications experience
Background in youth issues, health, social technology, science, journalism, and/or psychology (highly desired)
Experience in public policy (desired)
Adept at exploring new ways of thinking, ensures accuracy of work, and plans, organizes and monitors performance according to priorities
Strong writer/editor/creative who actively engages in innovative communications and values the power of emotional storytelling
Thought partner Strategic Communications colleagues, who values practical thinking to increase the impact of creative ideas, as well other internal stakeholders
Team player who loves learning, is voraciously curious and brings a sense of humor
Highly organized project manager with excellent judgment, able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with ease

Travel

While much of our work is remote, travel is required (e.g. quarterly team meetings in the SF Bay Area, occasional conferences, partner meetings, and speaking engagements).

Hopelab’s compensation is tied to local job market data, so will differ by location. Here are some sample salaries for this role, commensurate with training and experience:

SF Bay Area / NY Metro Area

Starting salary ($164,635 to $184,004). Full salary range ($164,635 to $193,689).

DC / Seattle / Boston

Starting salary ($148,172 to $165,604). Full salary range ($148,172 to $174,320).

Chicago / Denver / Sacramento

Starting salary ($139,940 to $156,404). Full salary range ($139,940 to $164,635).

Miami / Portland Oregon

Starting salary ($131,708 to $147,203). Full salary range ($131,708 to $154,951).
