Impact is looking for a Newsletter Writer! This position is ideal for anyone who deeply cares about social justice, loves reading and writing the world's top newsletters, and has an immense desire to use our platform for social good.

You will be expected to stay up to date on the latest news and identify what social issue-based content Gen Z resonates with. You’ll work closely with your team to cover current events, breaking news, under heard stories, interview experts, and more. You’ll also create content that expands on major news stories and current events to educate our audience on the social issues that underlie them.

In this role, you’ll also be expected to stay on top of all things related to culture—whether it’s celebrities, popular movies & shows, viral content & trends, or anything else that Gen Z is buzzing about. You should also have a thorough understanding of social issues and how they intersect with culture. You won’t be asked to simply cover celebrity news—instead, you’ll be expected to explore how those stories tie into social justice and issues that affect Impact’s audience.

Responsibilities:

Write 3 stellar and impactful newsletters per week
Collaborate with team to create marketing assets to grow newsletter
Stay up-to-date on the latest news and current events pertaining to social issues
Keep up with viral culture trends, social issues, news, and discourse that Gen Z cares about
Create impactful content you care about, from current events to cultural taboos
Interview experts about social issues ranging from abortion rights to LGBTQIA+ issues
Source conscious commerce, impactful organizations, and brands that our community will love
Source action items ranging from petitions, volunteer openings, or donation links to critical events and movements

You will…

The Nitty Gritty:

⏲️ Time commitment: You will write 3 newsletters each week for our platforms. This should take you around 3-6 hours per newsletter.

📆 Position length: 2-month trial, option to extend; contract to be renewed if mutual fit in 6 months

💸 Position is paid per hour, ranging from $18 – $35 (this range is a bit wider, as we're looking for someone to lead this platform)

The ideal candidate has…

1-4 years of experience of leading a newsletter
The ability to write engaging copy that resonates with our Gen Z audience
Experience creating new segments of a newsletter
Great writing skills and an impeccable understanding of grammar & storytelling
A basic understanding of statistics
The emotional capability to cover difficult topics (violence, injustice, etc.)
Experience with researching nuanced topics & finding reputable sources
The ability to transform complex concepts, events, and news into digestible content
The ability to convey important information objectively while still understanding intersectionality and focusing on the most marginalized
The ability to not just report on stories but expand on the deeper social issues that underlie them

Can work under pressure and juggle multiple tasks at the same time

Constantly looking through social media for stories to cover
