Position Summary

As a primary voice for RomanticAsheville.com (RA), the Managing Editor oversees the creation of engaging website and email content while maintaining close relationships with community partners as an enthusiastic ambassador. This role supports advertising partners through highly strategic promotions and sponsored content, supervises, designs, and uploads content, and directs many functions of the website.

Team Relationships

This role is accountable to the CEO of RomanticAsheville.com/Founder of JB Media Group and works closely with the Partnerships Manager. The role is also supported by social media team members and a Project Manager, and has regular interaction with other JB Media Group Leadership team members and some JB Media Agency team members.

Role Responsibilities

Partner Relationships and Content Support

Develop and maintain close, warm relationships with site partners.
Utilize existing processes to onboard new partners.
Collaborate with partners and RA team to create website partner profiles, engaging social media, and email promotions.
Create dynamic editorial content that readers will respond to enthusiastically.
Solicit, edit, and implement content and update requests from partners in RA’s voice.

Site Content Updates

Be proactive in researching and updating event listings, seasonal guides, and other evergreen content that needs periodic updating.
Develop and maintain a content update schedule.
Update & expand existing content and identify opportunities to link with new stories.
Coordinate with the JB Media Agency team in maintaining SEO developments to track traffic and optimize existing content.
Coordinate with the Social Media team about new content opportunities, giveaways, and partner promotion

Website Management

Utilize Google Analytics to monitor traffic patterns and effectiveness of content strategy.
Identify bugs, issues, and improvements to functionality and coordinate with the web development contractor as needed.
Create traffic reports for partners.
Respond to questions from readers.

Email Marketing

Create editorial calendar and strategy for e-newsletters in collaboration with partners.
Coordinate layout, content creation, editing, and scheduling with the Social Media team.
Supervise email database vendor.
Monitor results via Google Analytics and other metrics.

Travel Writing

Maintain the site’s seasonal editorial calendar.
Conduct research by traveling and interviewing within the coverage region to obtain information and images for new and existing content.
Coordinate with the JB Media Agency team in writing 6-8 new pages or articles per month that highlight the region, support site expansion plans, and achieve SEO goals.

Skills, Attributes, and Experience

Website or blog content management using Drupal or similar CMS
Knowledge and love of WNC, especially the outdoors, Biltmore, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the many small towns
Passion for exploration and discovery
Commitment to hospitality and helping others
Content writing with solid reporting and investigative skills to create authentic content (preferably experience with small-town tourism)
Email newsletter management
Basic skills in photography, photo editing, and graphic design
Content editing and onsite SEO optimization/editing
Facebook and Instagram account management
Bonus experience: YouTube account management
