Job Summary And Scope

Responsible for the management, development, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of the SRMC Trauma Program in alignment with the University of New Mexico and Sandoval Regional Medical Centers operations and goals. Assists in the identification of trauma patients, monitors the provision of service, facilitates with multiple practitioners for optimal patient outcomes. Participates in local and regional trauma committees representing SRMC’s trauma program. Serves as a clinical resource, assists with education of staff, data collection and coordination of the Trauma Review Committee. Coordinates systems and services required for an organized, interdisciplinary, patient centered team approach in collaboration with the Trauma Program Medical Director.

Essential Functions

MANAGEMENT-Responsible for organizing and directing clinical practice in collaboration with the program medical director through development, and implementation maintenance of practice guidelines per recognized standards.
SUPERVISION: Responsible for assurance of staff orientation, credentialing, competency completion and continuing education. Selecting, disciplining, and terminating employee.
Oversee Trauma Registrar job duties
Perform annual evaluation of trauma registrar
FINANCIAL- Manage and coordinate capital budgeting and purchasing of needed trauma equipment
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES – Create and Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance for the Trauma program
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
Remains current with the State of New Mexico Trauma Care Regulations and national trends in trauma care.
ACCREDITATION Responsible for achieving and maintaining State of New Mexico Level 3 Trauma Center designation in collaboration with the Medical Director, and ensure ongoing compliance with the NM State Regulations.
Coordinates trauma care management across the continuum of care for all ages of patients.
Strives to ensure and improve the quality of care provided to trauma patients.
Participates in case reviews, implements practice guidelines, directs community trauma education and injury prevention programs. Reviews patient care records of trauma patients to identify improvement opportunities.
Assists in the abstraction of data for case review and inclusion in the trauma registry.
Active involvement in research projects, the analysis and distribution of findings. Facilitates with protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis.
Prepares agendas and summaries of patient care for case review by the Trauma Committee.
Provides follow-up to providers, departments and staff as directed by the Trauma Committee and Trauma Medical Director.
Serves as a clinical practice resource and assists in staff development by providing for intra-facility and regional professional staff development.
Supervise the collection, coding, scoring and develop processes for validation of data. Utilize the registry data to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports and research.
Serve as an internal and external resource for staff and a liaison to EMS agencies.
Maintain an elected position within regional trauma committee

INJURY PREVENTION

COORDINATE: Organize and coordinate statewide injury prevention activities based on trauma data
COLLABORATION: Establish collaborative partnerships with injury prevention and/or other social organization at state regional and local levels
MATERIALS-Develop, design and produce promotional and/or educational materials including brochures, newsletter and flyers as appropriate related to injury prevention
OUTREACH SERVICES-Determine and acquire support personnel and equipment needed for different outreach services
REPORTS-Prepare annual reports related to trauma injury prevention program operations
EDUCATION
Maintain qualifications and training in accordance with the needs of our program as well as the new developments in the injury prevention field
Organize and provide injury prevention education to individual community members and organizations

PERFORMANCE/PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

COORDINATE- the trauma program performance improvement daily activities
REPORTS-Complete trauma performance improvement reports
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT-Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of corrective actions for identified opportunities for improvement, develop action plans for these PI initiatives, evaluates and reports on implementation outcomes
CONSULT-Oversee clinical activities and functions as consultant to colleagues and other health care providers on quality of care and trauma performance improvement
OUTCOMES-Monitor intra-hospital as well as inter-hospital patient transfers and outcomes
EDUCATION-Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and medical staff in identifying educational needs of trauma services personnel and in matters related to patient care issues and opportunities for improvement
MEETINGS- Responsible for creating agendas for Performance Improvement Meetings
Responsible for creating agendas for Trauma Committee Meetings
Identify educational needs and coordinate education of nurses and physicians in accordance with the New Mexico Trauma Regulations

QUALITY

Abstract 2% trauma registry charts for quality assurance monthly
Complete and maintain required certifications and courses according to NM Regulations
Compile quarterly trauma data to report out to the state.
Compile and analyze data monthly to report out to the Executive Team
Develop and implement discharge and referral plans with referral facilities.
Must show evidence of educational preparation with a minimum of 16 hours or internal or external trauma related continuing education per year.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor’s of Nursing required

Licenses/Certifications

CPR Certification for Healthcare or must obtain within 30 calendar days of position.

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by the State of New Mexico.

TNCC within 6 months of hire

Work Experience

5 years of emergency department, trauma, intensive care or sub-acute care nursing experience

Preferred Educational/Experience Requirements

Master of Science in Nursing

Previous Trauma Management experience

10 years experience in emergency room, intensive care, trauma care or subacute nursing

TNCC, ENPC, ACLS, PALS, CEN, CCRN, TCRN, TNCC Instructor,
