Our Public Relations department plays a critical role in promoting city services, initiatives, and events while strengthening the city’s brand identity. Interns with the City of Irondale gain valuable, real-world experience while contributing to meaningful projects that directly impact the community.
Role Overview:
The City of Irondale is seeking a creative and motivated Brand Marketing and Communications Intern to support its Public Relations department. This on-site role offers hands-on experience in public relations, event planning and promotion, graphic design, social media management, and digital marketing. This role will contribute directly to city initiatives and help shape how Irondale connects with its community.
You’ll be joining a tight-knit team of long-time Irondale employees, fostering a supportive, family-like workplace culture rooted in trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and executing events that promote city programs and initiatives
- Draft press releases to promote events and public campaigns
- Support the branding of City social media accounts
- Manage and create content for the City’s social media accounts
- Design/update a monthly city event calendars
- Maintain and update websites using Squarespace, WordPress, and Weebly
- Update monthly newsletter
- Complete additional tasks as necessary
Qualifications:
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field within the last 24 months
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation
- Experience with web tools (Squarespace, WordPress, or Weebly) preferred
- Experience with graphic design tools (Canva) preferred
- Knowledge of MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms is a plus
- A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle required
- Has a can-do attitude, organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about public service

Preferable candidates can provide graphic and writing samples. Position reports in office, Monday-Thursday. Part-time hours are flexible based on your academic schedule, if applicable. Some City events are held outside of regular office hours. The Brand Marketing and Communications Intern reports to the Public Relations Director.
Duration: Summer/Fall 2025 - Possibility for extension
Compensation: $15/hr
