Nature and Scope
Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, The Teen Program Coordinator plans, organizes all program activities at the East Lake Teen Center site; ensures the safety of youth who are participating in the programs; creates monthly special events; and coordinates bi-monthly service learning projects and program scheduling.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- Must have knowledge of working with teens between ages 10-18 years.
- High degree of human relation skills: ability to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, and volunteers and staff of all ages
- A high level of knowledge of computers, various technology and applications
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- Two years related experience preferred working in a teen afterschool program or related affiliation.
- One year related experience in managing a facility.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass the organization's MVR check.
Responsibilities
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information to schools and other youth serving agencies and organizations.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Supervises groups of teens, at teen center and in other capacities.
- Transports youth from school to recreational setting and activities.
- Attends meetings and trainings.
- Instructs lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with teen participants and parents/guardians; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Creates and schedules monthly activities and events
- Develops and distributes monthly program calendar and newsletter.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
