Kona-Kohala Chamber Communications Coordinator
Position: Communications Coordinator for the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce.
Location: Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Center, 75-5737 Kuakini Highway, Suite 208, Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi Island.
Employment Type: Full-time hourly, 40 hours per week, on-site, and in-person.
Compensation: Starting at $24 per hour.

Position Summary:
The Kona-Kohala Chamber seeks a pleasant, customer-oriented person with excellent communication and organizational skills for the position of Communications Coordinator. This position will play a key role in strengthening the Chamber’s profile in the community by effectively communicating its impact and accomplishments, while enhancing member marketing opportunities and visibility. Training will be provided. The successful candidate will excel in social media management, newsletter production, content creation, brand storytelling, and promotional campaigns. Strong writing, editing, and design skills are essential. The position requires professionalism, reliability, and tact. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for performing some duties of other team members when necessary or assigned and contributing to the organization's successful operation.
Responsibilities
General Tasks:
- Monitor daily emails, respond professionally, and forward as necessary.
- Provide high-quality customer service by phone and manage messages.
- Greet guests at the office and refer member services.
- Operate office equipment - computer, phone, copier/scanner, and postage machine.
- Maintain organized filing systems and document management.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned or deemed necessary.
Communications
- Effectively communicate the Chamber’s impact and accomplishments to members, media, and the wider community.
- Enhance member marketing opportunities and visibility through digital and print features.
- Manage Member Spotlights, Member Marketplace, and other member recognition initiatives.
- Develop and distribute the Chamber’s weekly newsletter, Kona-Kohala Connections.
- Manage weekly social media content and posting schedule.
- Draft articles, lead advertising sales, and adhere to the production timeline for the Chamber’s annual business magazine and member directory called The Source.
- Consistently update and maintain the Chamber’s website content, including the “News” section.
- Utilize communication tools and other aspects in the organization’s member management platform called ChamberMaster.
- Create documents, reports, and presentations using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Design graphics using Adobe products and similar software.
- Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets.
- Draft and distribute press releases and event announcements.
- Monitor various communications metrics.
- Provide quarterly reports to the CEO on communications reach and effectiveness.
Events
- Lead pre-event promotions and marketing initiatives.
- Provide live event coverage at events (images, posts, updates).
- Prepare and distribute post-event recaps highlighting outcomes.
- Assist with event preparations and execution as needed.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Professional business office environment with prolonged periods working on a computer. Ability to report to work at off-site locations for events. Some evening shifts are required for events, and a weekend shift is necessary for the annual home expo. Some events may require setting up tables and chairs, lifting boxes, and other physical activities. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for work purposes.
- Strong writing, editing, and design skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and graphic design software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college or a four-year degree.
- 2 or more years of experience in communications or a related field.
