Strategic Initiatives Director

Position Overview
The Strategic Initiatives Director strengthens Watersong’s mission through storytelling, systems, and strategy. This role integrates communications, analytics, and program support to ensure that education, conservation, and wellness initiatives are effectively shared, measured, and continuously improved.
The Director oversees the website, digital engagement, and data architecture—developing systems that connect outreach, participation, and impact. They also manage volunteer engagement and the Wellness at Watersong program, while supporting both the education and conservation teams with digital and printed content, signage, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Digital Engagement
● Oversee Watersong’s website and digital platforms, ensuring content is timely, accurate, and mission-aligned.
● Manage analytics dashboards to track engagement across the website, social channels, and newsletter.
● Produce the annual Impact Report and coordinate seasonal newsletters and other publications.
● Create and maintain print and digital content that supports education and conservation programming (e.g., signage, interpretive materials, lesson resources).
● Ensure brand consistency across all communications.
Data Systems & Analysis
● Develop and maintain data architecture that supports organization-wide reporting and decision-making.
● Create and automate data collection and analysis pipelines across volunteer management, event registration, participation tracking, and program evaluation.
● Integrate systems (e.g., Jotform, Google Workspace, donor CRM, and analytics tools) to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes.
● Generate dashboards and visual reports that provide actionable insights for leadership, staff, and board members.
● Partner with program teams to define metrics for success and evaluate outcomes.
Program & Strategic Support
● Support Education and Conservation teams with content creation, strategic planning, and communications.
● Collaborate on interpretive signage, educational collateral, and storytelling that connects community experiences to Watersong’s mission.
● Assist with organizational strategy and documentation to align program activities with long-term goals.
Volunteer Engagement
● Support recruitment, onboarding, and coordination for volunteers across all departments.
● Maintain volunteer databases, track service hours, and manage communications.
● Organize community and corporate volunteer events that reinforce stewardship and inclusion.
Reporting & Evaluation
● Build and maintain dashboards for internal and external reporting.
● Compile quarterly and annual performance summaries.
● Contribute data and narratives for grants and community reports.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in communications, information systems, environmental studies, or a related field.
● 3+ years of experience in nonprofit operations, communications, or data management preferred.
● Strong analytical and technical skills, including familiarity with Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, CRM/DMS platforms, and automation tools (e.g., Zapier, or Jotform).
● Excellent writing, editing, and design sensibilities.
● Proven ability to translate complex information into clear and compelling visuals and reports.
● Experience with community programs, volunteer coordination, or outdoor education is a plus.
