ABOUT HATHAWAY STRATEGIES
This program offers hands-on experience at an innovative, grassroots public affairs firm. At Hathaway Strategies, our team draws on decades of experience at the federal, state and local levels to help candidates, campaigns and companies strategize to achieve their unique goals. We’re seeking an undergraduate student or a recent graduate who is passionate about government, politics, advocacy, marketing, communications and more to support our dynamic team.
Internships are in-person at our downtown Indianapolis office and include compensation.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS & COMPENSATION
• Communications & Public Relations Intern
• Advocacy & Grassroots Intern
• $1,000 / month stipend (full-time)
• Paid parking in downtown Indianapolis
• Hours & start/end dates are negotiable
• All positions are in-person (Fall, Spring & Summer)
• College credits are available if applicable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Dependable, punctual and consistent
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Proficiency in the Microsoft 365
• Familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
• Applicants studying communications, public relations, political science, pre-law, public policy or related fields, and those with an interest in Republican politics, are encouraged to apply.
COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series by: Drafting the weekly newsletter; maintaining and updating the Lugar Series Alumnae Directory; attending and helping with the Lugar Series interview day, class days and events; and drafting and designing social media posts on Facebook, X and Instagram.
- Assisting with Hathaway Strategies communications by: Drafting social posts and press releases on behalf of Hathaway Strategies & clients; monitoring media coverage & assisting in building media lists; and monitoring insights & engagement on social media platforms.
ADVOCACY AND GRASSROOTS INTERN
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assisting Project Managers with client needs by: assisting in volunteer recruitment by building lists of potential advocates; identifying key community leaders, influencers or organizations relevant to a specific campaign; helping draft and refine letters to elected officials from stakeholders or grassroots advocates; logging communications and deliverables for internal reporting; and monitoring media coverage of specific issues and pulling together research
- Event and Client Support: Help plan events such as breakfasts and congressional and client roundtables, assemble and prep event packets and name tags, and assist with event set up, including seating and any technical needs.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administrative and Organizational Support: Answering phones, taking messages and relaying information to the Assistant to the President as necessary; taking notes in meetings and organizing files.
- Event Support: Attending luncheons, dinners and other events, many of which may be in the evenings and on the weekends.
- Other duties as assigned
