ITNPortland, a nonprofit providing transportation to those over 65, or those 18+ with a disability, seeks an experienced Executive Director. ITNPortland has provided rides in the greater Portland area for 30 years, providing 24/7 service for any ride purpose. ITNPortland is the flagship affiliate for the national nonprofit ITNAmerica, and serves as an example for the national network. The local and national offices are co-located, and work closely together to implement the programs and policies that make ITN unique amongst volunteer transportation services. This unique position allows for the opportunity to take the helm of a local organization with the full support of a growing national nonprofit.
The ideal candidate has experience running a business or nonprofit organization, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and an established network for outreach in the Portland area. Transportation experience is not required. The incumbent will be committed to ITNPortland’s mission of providing dignified transportation to keep individuals with transportation barriers active in their communities and be able to effectively share this message to recruit volunteers and supporters. This multi-faceted position holds primary responsibility for the management and financial health of the organization. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Community Outreach and Fundraising
· Implementation of ITNAmerica Community Outreach programs to create a steady pipeline of volunteer drivers, including setting up and delivering community presentations on the need for volunteers.
· Training and maintaining relationships with all volunteers to increase volunteer satisfaction and retention.
· Responsible for the implementation of ITNAmerica fundraising campaigns including the annual appeal, the Walk for Rides, and Car Trade and Car Donation programs.
· Engage in grant writing for special programs, as needed.
· Primary responsibility to assure good community relations, and to engage the Board of Directors, to cultivate, support and maintain corporate relationships and sponsorships.
General Administration and Governance
· Schedule and staff all meetings of the Board of Directors and the annual meeting of the members; file or renew any annual reports or licenses with the state of Maine, and any other responsibilities as described in the Corporation’s by-laws.
· Learn the system tools for efficient management of ITNPortland.
· Carry out all policies set by the Board of Directors pertaining to ITNPortland operation, including human resources policies, employee training, and compliance with all relevant state and federal workplace policies.
· Adhere to all of ITNPortland and ITNAmerica policies and procedures as presented in the ITN Affiliation Agreement.
· ITNAmerica is co-located with ITNPortland so it may serve as the model affiliate for the ITNAmerica national network of affiliate communities. In this capacity, ITNPortland provides not only a demonstration of financial sustainability, but an operating laboratory and a real-world classroom for visitors and staff training.
· Effective collaboration, partnership, and sharing of best practices with ITNAmerica staff to support the operations of ITNPortland and ITNAmerica is an essential requirement of this position. The Executive Director understands and agrees that in this capacity as the model ITN community, he/she will allow ITNAmerica’s staff to:
o Train other affiliate staff;
o Train ITNAmerica finance staff by doing ITNPortland’s bookkeeping;
o Pilot test material, software, and marketing programs;
o Participate in research programs;
o Host visitors from other communities by taking them on rides and introducing them to staff and volunteers;
o Participating in training programs and curricula for affiliates; and
o Collaborating with ITNAmerica in community outreach events.
· Accept and complete other tasks as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Human Resources
· Recruit, hire and manage all office staff and drivers as necessary to cover operations 24/7 including dispatching, customer service, and daily bookkeeping.
· Recruit and supervise qualified interns and file all reports as required by the participating school and funding agencies or organizations, locally or through ITNAmerica.
Operations and Finance
· Efficiently manage the resources of the corporation so there is a sustainable balance of revenue from fares, rides from volunteers and fundraising dollars to cover expenditures.
· Learn and train staff on the ride dispatching software. Cover the dispatching functions of the office as scheduled and additionally as needed.
· Supervise ITNPortland staff to organize and maintain records of all ITNPortland business in the community, including membership, customers, business contacts, adult children and family connections, and all relationships through Community Outreach Programs, including the newsletter, web page and advertising brochures.
· Primary responsibility that all monthly personal transportation account statements and regular mailings, such as birthday greetings and the monthly billing news are completed and delivered in a timely manner.
o Includes printing, production and mailing of:
§ Monthly account statements, including the Billing News
§ Monthly member-rider birthday cards
§ Monthly Member-donor renewal solicitations
· Primary responsibility for production and mailing of regular annual mailings:
o Volunteer Annual Statements
· Supervise the dispatch office to assure that all aspects of the transportation service run smoothly, including the proper training, scheduling of, and communications with all drivers and dispatchers; the registration, repair, and proper maintenance of vehicles; the acquisition, operations and maintenance of all necessary communications equipment and technology.
· Assure that customer service needs and issues are addressed in a timely manner
· Assure that all customer requests for rides are covered, without limitation.
Safety and Training
· Assure that the work area and work practices focus on safety, including reports of all work related accidents via an incident report immediately and any possible work related safety concerns to the proper authority.
Position requirements
· Substantial management and community outreach experience, business management experience preferred, transportation experience is not required
· Bachelor’s level degree required
· Strong written and verbal communication an absolute must
· Must be able to work without close supervision and to meet timelines
· Ability to plan, organize, problem solve, and prioritize in a quickly growing organization
· Ability to work with ITNAmerica™ staff
· Highly organized and flexible in dynamic environment

Salary and Benefits
Full time, salaried position -applicants must be in the greater Portland, Maine area.
$60,000 per year, paid vacation and sick time, health insurance benefit, work from home position requiring office attendance for meetings and events approximately once a week.
