Civic News Company, parent company of the nonprofit newsrooms Chalkbeat, focused on telling the story of education in America; Votebeat, dedicated to in-depth reporting on elections and voting; and Healthbeat, covering public health and health policy both nationally and locally, is seeking a Junior Sponsorships Manager, a self-motivated sales professional driven by education and equity and dedicated to building and sustaining long-lasting relationships with existing and prospective clients.
This position will report to the Senior Director of Earned Revenue.
The key responsibilities for this role include:
- Consult with clients and sell sponsorship products across Chalkbeat, Votebeat, and future potential Civic News Company verticals.
- Skill in uploading creatives to Google Ad Manager and Broadstreet Ad Manager.
- Experience creating sponsored content and email marketing campaigns.
- Strong prospecting abilities, including identifying, qualifying, cold calling, and closing sales leads.
- Proven capacity to build and maintain client relationships that support their goals.
- Proficiency in tracking activities and managing pipelines through Salesforce.
- Ability to conduct market and client research to understand target audiences and identify advertising opportunities.
- Experience scheduling and leading client meetings to present proposals, address concerns, and recommend effective advertising solutions.
- Capability to collaborate with marketing and editorial teams to prepare media kits, promotional plans, and sample advertisements.
- Willingness to attend sales meetings, trade shows, and training workshops as required.
- Strong persuasive communication skills to clearly articulate the benefits of advertising products and services.

- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Advertising, Communications, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in solution-based selling with proven success in advertising sales.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Salesforce.
- Strong understanding of marketing principles, advertising techniques, and media formats.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, negotiation, and consultative sales skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service and build long-lasting client relationships.
- Ability to clearly articulate the value and benefits of advertising products and services.
Bonus points if you’ve got:
- Experience in education-related advertising (i.e., ed tech, higher education, educational resources).
- Proficiency with Google Ad Manager and Broadstreet Ad Manager.
- Experience selling services to nonprofit organizations.
This full-time, remote-eligible position may be based anywhere in the continental United States. Civic News Company already has a presence: Chicago, Colorado, Indianapolis, Newark, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Tennessee, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
The salary range is $50,000 - $60,000 plus eligibility for performance-based commission incentives tied to revenue goals; base salary will be determined based on level of experience and geographic location, with a generous benefits package, including:

Civic News Company recognizes a staff bargaining unit, Civic News Company, affiliated with the Writers Guild of America, East, a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for news and online media, motion pictures, and television.
