Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications

Location: In-office in Springdale, AR (not a remote position)
Salary: $55,000–$65,000 (based on experience)
Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications leads DSA’s brand, marketing, and communications across events, programs, and key downtown initiatives. This role blends strategy with hands-on execution—building clear marketing plans and repeatable systems, overseeing core channels (social, email, web, media), and using performance data to continuously improve results.
Team leadership: The current expectation is to supervise a marketing intern responsible for the weekly newsletter and manage a social media contractor who produces content for DSA’s Facebook and Instagram. As DSA grows, this role may expand to include supervision of a full-time Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
Growth opportunity: This position is designed with a path for advancement. As the scope and team scale, there is potential over the coming years for this role to grow into a director-level position.
Core Responsibilities
1) Strategy, Planning & Performance
- Build annual and campaign-based marketing plans for DSA events, programs, and initiatives.
- Create and maintain simple, usable marketing systems and SOPs to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Track key performance metrics across email, web, social, and campaigns; provide a monthly snapshot to the Executive Director.
- Use insights to refine messaging, channel strategy, timing, and budget allocation.
2) Brand, Messaging & Content Quality
- Maintain brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials.
- Edit/proof key materials for clarity, tone, accuracy, and visual alignment.
- Coordinate translation of priority outreach materials into Spanish and Marshallese as needed.
3) Digital Channels Oversight (Social, Email, Website)
Social (Oversight + Direction):
- Oversee DSA’s presence on Facebook and Instagram (and other platforms as needed).
- Manage the social media contractor: set priorities, review/approve content, and ensure brand alignment.
- Step in during peak moments (events/campaigns) to capture/post timely content when needed.
- Monitor performance and incorporate insights into monthly reporting.
Email / Newsletter:
- Oversee the weekly newsletter produced by an intern (editing, approvals, and basic performance review).
- Manage newsletter ad placements/sponsor deliverables as applicable.
- Track basic email metrics (open rate, click rate, growth) and identify improvements.
Website & Event Listings:
- Keep DSA web properties accurate and current (events, initiatives, calls-to-action, partner info).
- Maintain event listings across DSA channels and key community calendars.
- Support and coordinate use of tools such as event calendar plugins, CRM/email systems, and texting tools.
4) Media, Promotions & Partnerships
- Draft and distribute press releases and key media communications for major events/announcements.
- Coordinate advertising, promotional partnerships, and campaign deliverables (including sponsor fulfillment).
- Collaborate with internal team and community partners to amplify downtown initiatives.
5) Event Marketing Support
- Lead marketing support for DSA-hosted events, including campaign planning and promotional timelines.
- Coordinate production of essential event marketing assets (signage, maps, flyers, banners) as needed.
- Attend select events for real-time coverage and coordination.
6) Team & Contractor Coordination
- Supervise the newsletter intern and provide training, feedback, and clear weekly priorities.
- Manage contractors (social media, photo/video, design) including scope, timelines, and approvals.
- Contribute to planning and tracking within the marketing/event budget.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5 years of marketing/communications experience (nonprofit, civic, tourism, or community-focused work a plus).
- Strong writing/editing skills and an eye for brand consistency.
- Experience managing digital channels (especially social and email) and interpreting basic analytics.
- Comfortable creating and maintaining simple systems, checklists, and repeatable workflows.
- Proficiency with common tools (Canva, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, Dropbox) and familiarity with CRM/email platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Textedly) preferred.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
