Basic Function
Resources for the Future (RFF) is an independent, nonprofit research institution in Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement.
We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented editorial intern to join our Washington, DC, communications team this summer for about 28 hours per week (Monday–Thursday weekly), starting around May and continuing through the end of August or so. The editorial intern will provide support for our Resources Radio podcast, Common Resources blog, and Resources magazine. Candidates with an interest in economics, environment and energy policy, journalism, or communications will be especially well suited for the role. This position pays $17.50–$20 per hour, depending on academic background and experience.
Responsibilities
The editorial intern will provide support to the editorial team in the following areas:
- Promotion assistance for the Resources Radio podcast
- Translating technical information into accessible and compelling editorial content
- Proofing content, pitching article ideas, and writing for our On the Issues biweekly newsletter and potentially for the Common Resources blog
- Resources.org website updates, maintenance, and photo selection
- Tracking data and metrics for editorial products to gauge the success of communications initiatives and contribute to data-driven decisions
- Other duties will be assigned as necessary and may depend on an individual’s specific skill set and interests.
Qualifications
- Relevant academic, research, and/or professional experience in one or more of the following: economics, environmental policy, journalism, writing, communications, environmental science, political science, or related topics
- Interest in economics and/or energy and environment issues and policy
- Independent worker, comfortable with taking initiative and asking for help alike
- Strong organizational and project management skills. Experience using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Google Drive, Asana, and similar project management tools would be beneficial in this role.
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to work as part of a collaborative team
- Interest and skills with Adobe Creative Cloud software, graphic design, photography, illustration, or podcast production software will be a plus
