Part-time Communication Associate, Road Safety (0.6 FTE)

Job Purpose:
The part-time Communication Associate, Road Safety will provide communication support to market Vital Strategies’ Road Safety Program and support in-country teams working with governments in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to reduce road deaths.
This is a part-time position (24 hours weekly) based in our New York office, where a hybrid, 2-day-per-week office schedule is in place (1 day in the office per week for part-time employees). Vital Strategies offers highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $36,000 to $42,000 FTE 0.6. The candidate must have authorization to work legally in the US at the time of hire.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Actively promotes the life-saving road safety work being done by Vital Strategies.
- Uses public relations know how to shape stories on various media platforms.
- Identifies opportunities for and drafts global programmatic and organizational press releases, op-eds and blogs.
- Drafts social media text for regional achievements and relevant road safety news, works with digital team to ensure that materials are posted to social media and manages Vital’s road safety resources page.
- Contributes to the review of campaign announcements, media campaigns reports, and other communication products. Manages copyediting requests.
- Contributes toward strengthening the team’s capacity regarding reporting structures, style, and storytelling.
- Administers the road safety team’s photo storage system.
- Collects, reviews and supports submission of Vital’s contributions to the initiative’s monthly newsletter.
- Supports additional Policy Advocacy and Communication-related activities, as relevant and needed.
Qualifications:
Education & Degree -
- Bachelor's degree in a communication-related major preferred.
Skills & Abilities -
- Expert English proficiency, both verbal and written.
- Professional editing and writing ability in English with a strong understanding of AP style.
- Organized, responsible, and has the capacity to work independently with excellent attention to details.
- Has interest in and understanding of public health issues, ideally road safety or urban development.
- Has experience working in an international team environment, with an ability to work within multi-cultural, multi-regional contexts.
- Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones.
- Interested in and has an understanding of digital and social media.
- Self-motivated and excellent time management with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Extremely well organized and highly attentive to detail.
- Able to manage multiple projects on strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Experience:
Required -
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a communication-related position;
- Experience editing and writing content in English for various sources.
- Experience using AP style.
Preferred -
- Global nonprofit experience.
- Public Health experience.
- Has interest in media relations.
