The Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) is a non-profit membership organization that engages business and community leaders in building economies that are local, green, and fair. SBN’s Local Food Program is known regionally for our work supporting local food businesses and farms through events, campaigns, workshops, and other programming.
The Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) is seeking a Local Food Program Manager. The ideal candidate will bring strategic thinking, an entrepreneurial approach, and professional passion. They will have an interest in the following areas: communications, event planning, small businesses, community-building, and local food. This role involves planning and executing digital communications and in-person events, promoting and enrolling organizations for our various events, guiding small businesses through permitting and on-boarding, and more. Successful candidates will be resourceful team players that thrive in dynamic and fast-paced work environments with multiple priorities, and enjoy taking ownership of projects and taking on new challenges.
Responsibilities
SBN Organizational Support (25%)
- Assist with SBN’s grant management and grant writing.
- Support SBN’s other programs and daily operations, including the Sustainable Business Awards, Annual Conference, and other programs and events.
- Take lead and represent SBN in internal and external meetings as appropriate.
- Internship mentoring and management.
Communications (20%)
- Build and maintain relationships with partners and businesses in the food sector.
- Point of contact for outreach, content creation, and promotion of local food businesses during Eat Local Always campaigns, preparation for the Boston Local Food Festival and Local Food Trade Show, and other promotional campaigns.
- Manage the marketing and content creation for SBN’s Local Food Programs, brand, and promotion of member organizations with supervision by the Local Food Program Director and consultation from SBN’s strategic partners.
- Manage the social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) for the Local Food Program accounts.
- Marketing, outreach, and promotion for campaigns and events.
- Lead writing and creation of monthly local food newsletter.
- Develop, update, and maintain website content, including ongoing edits, page creation, and functionality improvements.
Event Planning and Management (50%)
- Assist in the operations, planning, implementation, and partner coordination of the established SBN events and programs: Local Food Trade Show, Eat Local Always campaigns, Boston Local Food Festival, B2B events, Wholesale Matchmaking and other workshops and webinars.
- Co-managing event logistics, including vendor registration, obtaining event permits, vendor placement, volunteer training, and implementation.
- Recruit vendors, food buyers, attendees, and volunteers.
Partner and Member Development (10%)
- Recruit and support SBN members within the Local Food Program.
- Help to further develop SBN’s Boston Local Food Program.
- Assist in the planning, execution, and advancement of current and additional local food programs.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree and/or equivalent industry experience strongly preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Quick learner, detail-oriented, multi-tasker, and self-starter who can work independently and organize competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated skill in relationship building
- Highly collaborative team player who demonstrates a positive attitude
- Occasional weekend and evening hours required around event programming
- Knowledge of food system, sectors, networks, and initiatives in Massachusetts and New England a plus
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills a plus

Expectations and Compensation
- 40 hours per week
- Pay commensurate with experience, range $28-$32/hour
- Hybrid work schedule
3 days/week in office, Cambridge
2 days/week remotely
- Occasional evening or weekend hours required
