Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director, Government Relations, Policy & Advocacy, and in consultation with the Senior Director, Federal Government Relations, the Manager, Government Relations will be responsible for supporting the federal and advocacy lines of business by providing project management, event coordination, and strategic communications within the office of government relations. The manager will help advance the goals of the federal and advocacy lines of business by providing support in the areas of research, correspondence, tracking, and project management, ensuring deliverables are met.
LOCATION- This is a hybrid position. Employees work out of our Washington DC office a minimum of two days per week and work remote the remaining days. Schedule flexibility for in-office days required around events.

Responsibilities
The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Director, Government Relations, Policy & Advocacy, and in consultation with the Senior Director, Federal Government Relations, the Manager, Government Relations will be responsible for supporting the federal and advocacy lines of business by providing project management, event coordination, and strategic communications within the office of government relations. What You'll Lead
Federal Government Relations:
- Coordinate and prepare first correspondence to Members of Congress, Administration Officials and other stakeholders in coordination with BGCA Federal strategy
- Manage Congressional mass emails and communications.
- Lead small portfolio of lower tier policy priorities which may include bill tracking, monitoring, and providing updates for the team and for Clubs.
- Attend coalition meetings, Capitol Hill visits, and Congressional hearings on behalf of BGCA.
- Support BGCA’s appropriations strategy including annual filing requests to Congress and coordinating with contractor work in these efforts, supporting Club earmark application requests, and more.
- Research, monitor legislation, run bill reports Important to BGCA’s federal policy strategy; Conduct web-based and other research as needed on BGCA legislative issues. Perform basic administrative tasks including meeting support, scheduling meetings, drafting and distribution of notes internally and with consultants and coalitions, managing routine office business, and provide other organization-wide support as needed/assigned.
- Supporting intern recruitment & onboarding.
- Support office management responsibilities for DC office including point of contact for all Government Relations inquiries, supply orders, etc.
- Administer Government Relations training logistics including trackers, tech, email reminders and follow-ups.
Advocacy
- Update Government Relations Tracking Dashboards, Club advocacy interactions, Federal Legislation Tracker, Congressional champion tracking, and team goal trackers.
- Monitor Club’s digital presence, to include social media, for advocacy-related posts and ensure they are accurately captured within BGCA’s advocacy systems;
- Assist with planning and support of BGCA’s fly-in advocacy and/or government relations event(s) including National Days of Advocacy and Summit for America’s Youth including scheduling, materials production, project management, providing on-site support, and other duties as assigned.
- Support advocacy special events like congressional recess engagements and Native Week of Advocacy including deck creation, tracking of visits, creating reports to the field, and compiling press clips for summer advocacy tracking.
- Support drafting, designing and overall execution of state and federal action alerts. Track and reporting of these metrics utilizing BGCA advocacy software.
- Support Government Relations team updates including intranet (internal) and internet (external) sites
- Lead newsletter drafting and design.
- Support Youth Advocacy program implementation and communication including budget support, data tracking, Powerpoint development, communications updates, and other activities as assigned.
- Provide point of contact support to the advocacy inbox related to requested data, answering questions, managing and routing inquiries, and conveying messages in support of specified Government Relations staff.
- Support and prepare materials for Government Relations training initiatives via webinar, email, conferences, and other presentations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the development and department invoices, PO’s and check requests, and ensure they ware written and submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage monitoring and ordering of office supplies and technology in collaboration with IT and Administration.
- Support the development and execution of pertinent third party and local Club contracts and/or LOAs including tracking systems to include contractors, special events, and others.

Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, political science, public policy, sociology, training, or related discipline required.
- Minimum of one year of experience, including administrative/office support and project management responsibilities that include designing and leading multiple, simultaneous projects.

- A successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of reliability, independent work, and creativity and is self-motivated. work both independently and collaboratively as well as an eagerness to learn.
- Computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, etc.)
- Advanced level of analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to proofread and copy edit.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism and maturity and a tolerance for rapid pace and shifting assignments and priorities
- A demonstrated commitment and interest in the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America
Abilities
This position frequently is required to sit and twist/turn for three to six hours per day, as well as type, file, and complete general office support services. In addition, occasionally is expected to stand, walk, lift up to 30 lbs., stoop, squat pull/push, reach, grasp/squeeze. Skills essential for successful communications include sight, hearing, speaking, writing, and reading comprehension
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $94,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Boys & Girls Clubs of America offers a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to lead meaningful, mission-driven work at national scale.
