Nature & Purpose Of Position
The Office of the Provost is seeking a dynamic and hard-working student who is a go-getter, deadline oriented, and exhibits strong attention to detail. This intern provides support for the Director of Academic Communications by cultivating relationships throughout the division and serving as a storyteller for students, faculty, and staff in the academic community at SHSU by developing, writing, and contributing to a variety of communications efforts across platforms. This includes compiling the Academic Affairs Newsletter each week, developing video content, as well as the development of social media campaigns that promote engagement. The Office of the Provost serves all academic units and colleges, and works to tell the academic story of SHSU, its faculty, staff, and students.
The Office of the Provost provides student interns with the opportunity to work in a professional setting and gain valuable real-world skills and training that will benefit their future careers. Interns may have the opportunity to assist with writing articles for online publications, developing integrated communications plans, and other projects, if they are interested in expanding their portfolio. This intern will report to the Director of Academic Communications.
Other Requirements For The Position
Applicant must be an SHSU student currently enrolled and in good standing.
The student worker is expected to do the following:
- Edit and compile the Academic Affairs Newsletter each week
- Generate visual and written copy for various platforms and media outlets
- Follow proper etiquette when crafting an email or making a phone call
- Communicate and conduct interviews in a professional manner
- Follow general copywriting and proofreading protocols
- Have strong attention to detail, stay organized, and meet deadlines
- Create and plan social media campaigns
- Prepare multimedia content to be used in conjunction with communications plans
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, faculty, and staff
- Maintain the confidentiality of SHSU and Office of the Provost information
- Learn and follow all college and Sam Houston State University brand standards
- Assist and participate in the organization and execution of events, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Must be able to work flexible hours Monday through Friday, throughout the fall, spring, and summer sessions.
Start date will be Fall 2026.
