Arizona Early Music (AEM) is currently accepting applications for the position of Executive Director (ED).
Founded in 1982 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1984, Arizona Early Music (AEM) is the Southwest’s premiere presenter of national- and international-touring ensembles specializing in historically informed performance.
Arizona Early Music’s Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to-day operations, producing AEM’s various events, facilitating audience and donor engagement, assisting the Executive Committee with board management, working closely with the Board of Directors to program AEM’s events, and planning and executing long-term strategic goals.
Reports to: AEM Board President
Employment Type: 3/4 time, salaried
Salary Range: approx. $45,000–$55,000 (or commensurate with experience)
Location: Tucson, Arizona (please note that AEM does not maintain a commercial office space)
Organizational Management
– Serve as the public-facing leader of Arizona Early Music
– Work with Board officers on budgets, strategic planning, fundraising, and Board development
– Manage any contractors and volunteers engaged by AEM
– Maintain and update AEM’s website and web-based sales, accounting, and communications platforms (WordPress, Zeffy, Quickbooks, and Mailchimp)
– Maintain supportive relationships with local, regional, and national partnering organizations
Event Production
– Manage the artist/ensemble hiring process from initial negotiations through final contracting
– Manage venue reservations for rehearsals and performances for all AEM events
– Develop and execute a concert operations plan for each event
– Ensure the timely design, production, and distribution of concert tickets and programs
– Manage the Emerging Ensemble Residency, from jury adjudication and artist selection through the production of the nine-day residency
Development
– Develop and execute ambitious and creative fundraising projects, and research new grant programs
– Cultivate and sustain individual-donor support from AEM’s audience and prospective patrons
– Ensure the timely completion of government and foundation grants and corresponding final reports
Communications
– Plan and execute annual marketing plans
– Use MailChimp, Facebook, and Instagram to engage with AEM’s newsletter subscribers and prospective audience members online
– Ensure the timely design, production, and mailing of AEM’s season brochures
– Maintain regular contact with local media, and prepare and issue press releases
– Annually update online-event calendars serving Southern Arizona and the Early Music community
Board Support
– Meet regularly with the Executive Committee to monitor short-term progress throughout the season and long-term strategic goals
– With the AEM President and Committee Chairs, draft and distribute Board Meeting agendas, committee reports, and financial documents in advance of meetings
– Serve ex officio on all Board Committees
– Assist with identifying and recruiting prospective Board Members
Desired qualifications and skills for this role include:
– Bachelor’s degree and three to five years professional experience in non-profit organizational leadership in the performing arts; graduate training in arts administration, performing arts, business, or related fields is preferred
– Detail-oriented self-starter with an entrepreneurial approach to strengthening and guiding an organization
– Superior written and oral communication skills
– Record of success in non-profit fundraising, marketing, donor development, and grant-writing
– Knowledge of Quickbooks, basic accounting, and financial presentations preferred; willingness to learn as needed
– Experience with CRM management, email-marketing platforms, and the Google Business Suite
– Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
– Experience managing professional and volunteer personnel
– Candidate with musical experience and/or knowledge of early music strongly preferred
