Allure is seeking a dynamic and highly organized Senior News Editor to shape and drive the brand’s daily coverage across beauty, wellness, and culture. This role is ideal for an editor with sharp instincts, strong opinions, and a passion for internet trends and pop culture, who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment.
The Senior News Editor will manage a steady stream of daily stories (spanning opinion pieces, celebrity news, product reporting, and live event coverage) while collaborating closely with freelancers, staff, and the audience development team to ensure every piece resonates with readers and performs across platforms. With a balance of editorial creativity, strategic thinking, and operational management, this editor will play a crucial role in keeping Allure at the center of the cultural conversation.
This position reports into the Content Director. This is a Guild position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Own Allure’s news content strategy, partnering with the Content Director and Executive Editor to build a content strategy around news that keeps Allure in the daily conversation of our readers
- Assign, edit, and produce stories daily news and news+ pitches, including opinion, celebrity beauty, and product reporting, including decide what pitches to pursue and make sure everything is assigned
- Possess an avid interest in pop culture and internet trends, with strong opinions and perspectives
- Cultivate and manage a robust roster of freelance writers, helping to ensure those writers are meeting expectations for quality and speed
- Manage Allure’s column The Scenario, assigning content to freelance writer, editing and managing promotion with appropriate teams
- Liaise with audience development team to ensure every story is optimized for newsletter, social engagement, and Google Discover
- Maintain a monthly budget for news and opinion content
- Stay informed on current trends and market in the beauty and wellness industries; develop and maintain relationships with hairstylists, makeup artists, dermatologists, psychologists, chemists, and other experts in the beauty, health, and wellness fields that secure exclusive news and opinion pieces for Allure
- Own and lead the evaluation of all content to ensure it meets Allure’s publishing standards for tone, fairness, and factual accuracy, operating independently with minimal to no senior supervision.
- Optimize strategy and content during live award show and event coverage
- Attend events and represent the Allure brand in PR opportunities as needed
- Regularly appear on camera for commerce UGC, and as needed in other social media, video, and branded content campaigns
- Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- 5-7 years minimum experience writing/editing, ideally with a focus on beauty and wellness content
- Strong familiarity with keyword research, headline optimization, and using analytic tools to gauge performance
- Strong researching, reporting, and writing skills with proven ability to turn around stories in a fast-paced environment
- Passionate about having a deep knowledge of the beauty industry
- Experience working with a team of writers and freelancers
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Experience publishing a high volume of content in a CMS
- Ability to contribute original ideas
- Fantastic collaborator and communicator
- Willingness to learn new skills, incorporate editorial feedback to improve work, and make decisions informed by data and performance
The expected base salary range for this position is from $92,500 - $120,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
