The Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute is a trade association representing the various segments of the factory-built housing industry. The membership includes manufacturers, lenders, community owners, installers, transporters, retailers, and more. We place a precedence on member relations, education, and advocacy.
Position:
Communication is key in every organization. KMHI is looking for a full time, motivated individual with a diverse skillset. The position will be heavy in communications, event planning, reporting, , marketing, and member engagement. Salary range is $60,000 - $65,000 with a generous benefits package and annual performance-based bonus.
The role is broad. One minute you could be talking to an installer who is under a home and covered in mud; the next minute you could be talking to a politician in the Capitol. You could be drafting a newsletter, editing a video, planning an exciting event, or welcoming a new member! No day is the same!
Duties:
The following strategic priorities are pulled directly from KMHI’s strategic plan. The duties that follow would be the responsibility of the Director of Communications and Operations to help achieve the association’s goals and objectives relative to each strategic priority.
Strategic Priority #1: Public Education – KMHI will partner with various media outlets to inform urban, suburban, and rural customers about the quality and safety of our homes.
- Assist in writing and publishing position papers, letters, memorandums, and recommended revisions of existing and proposed zoning and land use regulations.
- Design, produce, and manage KMHI publications and updates, including official documents and forms.
- Responsible for enhancement, update, and maintenance of KMHI website, including registration with search engines and other links.
- Be proactive in scheduling meetings and educational opportunities with media outlets, appraisers, local housing authorities, and state and local governments
- Produce and distribute news releases and maintain contact with statewide news media.
- Assist in design and production of special presentations for promoting KMHI policies and positions.
- Maintain website and social media pages to be more consumer facing to show the general public the benefits of manufactured housing.
- Produce and edit, with the Executive Director, educational videos on industry improvements
Strategic Priority #2: Advocacy – KMHI will build and nurture relationships with local and state government agencies to better engage and protect consumers, members, the industry, and our community.
- Responsible for development and maintenance of KMHI-PAC fundraising as well as aiding in PAC record keeping, in conjunction with the part-time finance manager.
- Manage external and internal communications, write articles, memorandums, “Calls to Action” and other correspondence.
Strategic Priority # 3: Educate Membership – KMHI will proactively engage with the membership to elevate the manufactured housing industry
- Will be responsible for executing the approved plan for KMHI’s Annual Conference.
- With the Executive Director, design, produce, and edit monthly newsletter.
- Coordinate membership communication.
- Responsible for the dissemination of timely internal and external communications.
- Manage external and internal communications, write articles, memorandums, and other correspondence.
- Design and produce promotional materials for annual conference, educational programs, and general membership meeting under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Oversee logistics of regional meetings to educate and update membership.
- Provide up-to-date housing data including markets, new housing starts, and HUD code placements.
Strategic Priority #4 – Grow Work Force – KMHI will implement short and long-term strategies to bring individuals into the industry today and young talent for tomorrow.
- Assist Executive Director with high school and post-secondary programs like SkillsUSA and K4C to educate students of the career opportunities in the manufactured housing industry.
- Develop and maintain, with the Executive Director, a manufactured housing apprenticeship program with high school and post-secondary students/ co-op students.
- Assist in maintenance of relationships with Career Centers across Kentucky to educate the career opportunities inside of the manufactured housing industry.
Office/Membership Responsibilities
- Produce, maintain, and update KMHI Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Promote and manage database for scholarship program under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Responsible for development and maintenance of Association Management software and development of special reports.
- Responsible for maintaining a monthly master calendar of scheduled events, appointments, and staff travel.
- Coordinate, implement, and maintain the KMHI Annual Awards Program.
- Serve as staff coordinator, with Executive Director for Conference, Education/Special Programs Committee.
- Assist in Hall of Fame Awards Program
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification from an accredited institution. Degree or experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field beneficial.
- Excellent writing, editing, communication and organization skills.
- Self-starter who takes initiative and thinks through challenges and opportunities.
- Relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Highly proficient in the Microsoft Suite and Adobe Suite.
- Exceptional multi-tasking, project management and time management skills.
Desired
- Three years+ professional work experience in a marketing/communications role.
- Knowledge of non-profit or membership-based associations beneficial.
- Event planning and event management ability.
- Graphic design experience a plus.
