Startup Ecosystem Manager — NC Tweener Fund
Triangle, NC | Hybrid, in-person Triangle base | Full-time
Hey — Scot here. Robbie Allen and I run the NC Tweener Fund (powered by NC IDEA), and we're hiring an ecosystem operator to run the day-to-day of the fund alongside us. If you're the kind of person who lights up at a podcast taping in the morning, can ship a clean newsletter by Thursday, and sees an empty Coda doc as a fun building project — keep reading.
A few quick notes up front:
- No recruiters, please.
- Applicants must have permanent work authorization in the US. We're not sponsoring visas for this role.
- This role is Triangle-based. We'll be in-office with additional heavy in-person time for events, podcast tapings, and team time, plus async work-from-anywhere for the writing and ops blocks. If you're not in the Triangle, you'd need to relocate at your own expense.
- You will work directly with Scot, Robbie, and the previous program managers. Small team, fast cadence, real ownership from week one.
About the role
NC Tweener Fund is an early-stage venture fund that invests in and supports the most promising Tweener companies across North Carolina — startups that have outgrown their first check but haven't yet reached growth-stage funding. We sit at the intersection of capital, community, and content, and we believe building a strong ecosystem is just as important as the investments we make.
We're looking for a driven, creative, and organized operator to own the day-to-day programming, content, and community operations of the fund. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role that touches everything from podcast production and newsletter writing to flagship event planning and strategic partnership execution. You'll work closely with the founding team to tell the story of the NC startup ecosystem, support our portfolio companies, and build the operational infrastructure that makes Tweener run.
Our stack
- Content/podcast: Tweener Talks podcast — record, edit, publish via Transistor; distribute to YouTube, LinkedIn, Substack; short-form clips for socials.
- Newsletter: TweenerTimes on Substack — bi-weekly, including the recurring podcast post and our What I Read This Week (WIRTW) column.
- Community Hub: Tweener Community Hub built on Coda — portfolio company profiles, advisor pages, job board, talent center, company spotlights.
- Events: Tweener Night, LP/CEO happy hours, Tweener Madness startup competition, Raleigh-Durham Startup Week (RDSW) collaborations, Tweener Awards.
- Fund platform: AngelList Rolling Fund — $7,500/quarter min for accredited LPs, 10–15 investments per quarter, 40–60 per year, portfolio of 160+ NC companies.
- Operations: Slack for portfolio/team comms, Google Workspace, plus the usual social platforms (LinkedIn, X, YouTube).
What you'll own
- Podcast production & distribution (~25%): Own the full weekly podcast pipeline from pre-production through multi-platform distribution.
- Content creation & social media (~20%): Write and publish the bi-weekly TweenerTimes Substack newsletter, Founder Spotlights, and a weekly LinkedIn content calendar.
- Event planning & execution (~18%): Plan and execute quarterly flagship events including Tweener Night, LP/CEO happy hours, and Tweener Madness; support RDSW.
- Portfolio & community management (~18%): Maintain the Tweener Community Hub on Coda, run ongoing portfolio research, and prep data for the annual Tweener Awards.
- Stakeholder communications (~10%): Support quarterly LP meetings, sponsor relationships, and partnership comms.
- Strategic projects & brand (~5%): Brand projects, partnership rollouts, and future programming planning.
- Operations & administration (~5%): Calendar, Slack, invoices, event budget tracking, and admin needs.
You'll thrive in this role if you
- Love variety and multi-tasking, and can shift fluidly between writing, coordinating recordings, and updating databases.
- Are energized by the startup and venture ecosystem and want to deepen your knowledge over time.
- Take pride in the details.
- Are comfortable on a small, fast-moving team where everyone wears multiple hats.
- See yourself as a builder.
Minimum qualifications
- 2+ years in a content, community, program, or operations role — ideally somewhere fast and small (startup, agency, accelerator, fund, media brand).
- Strong writing chops — newsletters, recaps, announcements, social posts.
- Comfort running events end-to-end, including 100+ person flagship gatherings.
- Working knowledge of podcast production — or the demonstrated ability to learn it fast.
- Calm, organized project management across many parallel threads.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Substack, Transistor (or similar), Coda, AngelList, Slack, and standard social tools.
- Existing relationships in the NC/Triangle startup ecosystem.
- A portfolio: a newsletter you ran, a podcast you produced, an event you owned, a community you grew.
- Curiosity about venture capital and the mechanics of a rolling fund.
- Light video editing chops and design instincts (Canva/Figma).
How we work
Small team, fast cadence, public reps. We publish — newsletters, podcasts, founder spotlights, event recaps — every single week. We default to hybrid in the Triangle. We use Coda, Substack, Transistor, AngelList, Slack, and Google Workspace.
