Position Overview
The Communications Strategist plays an important role as a member of the PAN Foundation’s Marketing and Communications (MarComm) team, working alongside a dedicated group of marketing and communications professionals to help elevate PAN’s position as a leading charitable patient assistance foundation.
As Communications Strategist you will play a leading role in developing key messaging, editorial content, and communications products to convey our impact and thought leadership. In addition, you will steward, grow, and refine PAN’s organizational and advocacy communications strategy and own multiple communications channels. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, leading and prioritizing multiple projects, and working in a remote work environment across the MarComm team and other departments at the PAN Foundation

Content strategy development and execution (50%)
- Develops and edits organizational communications, including but not limited to key messages for organizational announcements, executive talking points, advocacy campaigns, disease fund launches, and patient storytelling efforts.
- Develops and executes communications plans for organizational initiatives.
- Leads editorial content strategy, development, and execution for our advocacy audience.
- Develops communications strategies to reach corporate donors, in collaboration with our Development team.
- This includes but is not limited to newsletters, advocacy campaigns, blog posts, standalone announcements, op-ed articles, website content, and white papers. Tracks all advocacy email sends through MarComm’s editorial calendar.
- Leads editorial content strategy, development, and execution for our corporate donor audience
- Develops communications strategies to reach corporate donors, in collaboration with our Development team.
- This includes but is not limited to newsletters, standalone announcements, website content, talking points, presentations, and other materials.
- Manages all corporate donor email sends through MarComm’s editorial calendar.
- Generates and helps implement new ideas to publicize PAN’s mission, accomplishments, and expertise to key audiences.
- Advances the PAN Foundation’s thought leadership initiatives by crafting speaking engagements, talking points, video scripts, and other initiatives that present as the PAN Foundation’s leaders as subject matter experts.
- Translates national polling, research findings, and complex healthcare policy topics into high-quality, compelling, easy-to-understand content.
- Contributes high-quality copy for our website, including new landing pages and updates to existing pages.
- Conducts interviews and writes longer-form stories about patients, healthcare providers, pharmacists, and caregivers to be published on our website and through other marketing channels.
- Provides support for media relations as needed.
Brand management (10%)
- Manages the PAN Foundation’s key messages inventory and conducts regular reviews to ensure materials are up to date for staff.
- Monitors and manages the PAN Foundation’s annual charity ratings and review sites, including Charity Navigator, GuideStar, GivingWise, and GreatNonprofits.
- Collaborates with to the Digital and Brand Strategist on brand materials as needed, such as pitch decks, presentations, and event and conference materials.
Project management (40%)
- Manages development and execution of the PAN Foundation’s annual impact report.
- Maintains a repository of key messages and branding resources for staff across the organization.
- Oversees MarComm’s editorial calendar and storytelling database, including tracking the use of community testimonials across channels.
- Updates and maintains ‘data we often cite’ spreadsheet to track internal impact statistics and polling data, as well as external data sources.
- Identifies and tracks submission deadlines for key speaking engagements.
- Facilitates MarComm’s monthly editorial strategy meetings and actively contributes to other MarComm and organizational meetings as appropriate.
- Provides backup and support to other MarComm functions and projects as needed.
- Oversees other projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications

Education
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution preferred.
Work Experience
- 3-5 years of communications and marketing experience, with an emphasis on leading content development and brand management in the nonprofit or philanthropic sectors.
- Experience related to healthcare issues highly desired.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong command of message development and writing for the web and digital channels.
- Demonstrated experience writing for different audience types and across different platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex healthcare topics into a clear message or narrative.
- Understanding of content development and branding best practices.
- Knowledgeable in and advocates for plain language.
- Ability to create compelling email newsletter content, optimize email content and layout, manage layouts and segmentations, and report on analytics.
- Capable of managing a range of projects and responsibilities concurrently.
- Demonstrated success at working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience supervising freelance writers and other consultants, as needed.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams and PowerPoint).
- Experience with Pardot highly desired.
- Adaptable to shifting projects and competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Desire to contribute to PAN’s mission, vision, and patient-centered approach.
